I hate selling cars
Decided to try and sell my 99 Mk2 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec, why does selling a car attract timewasters and idiots? I've had it 10 years now but it just doesn't get used anymore so it's time to let it go. So far I've had one bloke who thinks he's looking at a brand new car for £500 and another who only wants the engine, told him "yeah fine, just buy the car and it comes free with it!"
Decided to stick it on the Talkford forum now,so far had a few comments on how nice it is, but thats it.
I dare say this saga will only carry on.

Probably why so many people are prepared to lose a lot of money trading their car in as part-exchange, or selling to the car-buying people. A lot less hassle.
Nice car for the year, by the way. Good luck with the sale.
Andrew.

Swings and roundabouts, it's always the same, if you're selling something you end up dealing with tits, who like you said expect a showroom car/bike or whatever or actually do have nothing better to do than waste your time.
On the other hand, if you're looking to buy something you waste a lot of time and fuel going to see some piles of shit that someone swears blind is in great nick, 'tis the way of people.

F**king bargain! Those alloys are worth £250 in that condition alone.

Re: I hate selling cars
When I was still a Capri virgin, those alloys were popular with the ricers around town - saw them on Ka's and Fiesta's (some sticking waaaaay out the arches though and probably not MoT-safe).
Hmmmm, call me mad but but I reckon they wouldn't look too out of place on a Capri tbh.

I've obviously led a sheltered life as I was not familiar with that expression. Thanks for enlightening me!

Bugger! Mines only done 60,500 miles and is MOT'd till 22nd May 2015.You no what I hate? When I just bought a Mondeo for 650 and you got one for 500 lol
On the wheels subject, there are a few lads round by me with the 16" Mondeo wheels on Ka's and early Fiestas, as for how they'd look on a Capri, I just dug this Photo out, they are the Cosworth version but look similar to the Mondeo wheel.

Re: I hate selling cars
The Cosworth ones definitely stick out on a Fiesta or Escort, ruin the handling too apparently. I'm not sure if you have to roll the arches, maybe depends on ride height.
I thought 'ricer' referred to Type R's etc?

Hi,mjcapri wrote:I thought 'ricer' referred to Type R's etc?
My new-found understanding is that the expression refers to cars that have bodywork, wheels and maybe exhaust modifications, but no engine mods, so they are no faster than the standard variant of the car. Originally the term was applied to oriental imports (hence the name) but is now more generally applied to any car that fits the description.

Oh well I was right about the Type R being one of the original ricers.... It would however appear that my urban dictionary is not the latest edition!
Re: I hate selling cars
I always thought it referred to Japanese cars.. ricers as in rice.. synonymous with Japan.
I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.

All this talk of Rice explains this:Major_Tom wrote:I always thought it referred to Japanese cars.. ricers as in rice.. synonymous with Japan.
As I hadn't even heard the expression until a few days ago, I had no idea what that emoticon was all about! As I said, I've led a sheltered life.

That's Bosozoku But guess that's a type of ricer, to me the term always meant Japanese modified carspeers.dupp wrote:All this talk of Rice explains this:Major_Tom wrote:I always thought it referred to Japanese cars.. ricers as in rice.. synonymous with Japan.

Re: I hate selling cars
Thought I'd do an update on my car selling post, the Mondeo has now gone, went the old school route in the end, parked it on a local pub car park with a sign in the window, went within a few hours, just glad I don't sell cars very often!
Thanks for all the positive comments
Phil.

Are you trying to confuse me? Bosozoku is something to do with customised motorbikes, according to Wiki. I've never before felt as old and out of touch with yoof, as I do on this forum!
