Oh dear its looking suspiciously like I have been the architect of my own social doom.
That's the equivalent of rolling a one on a D20... a fumble.
Oh I've done it again

There is nothing in the known world that's as disastrous as rolling a one on a D20. Whatever the consequences of that are!Major_Tom wrote:That's the equivalent of rolling a one on a D20... a fumble.
In answer to your original question, I have been known to purchase the odd packet of 70's and 80's Top Trumps. Does that count?
Andrew.
Re: What's the geekiest thing you've ever looked up on ebay?
Put simply, if you were rebuilding your carburettor, you'd roll a D20. Assume your Mechanics skill is 12, you would want to get a 12 or under to "pass" your task. Rolling bang on a 12 is a Critical, which means, in this case, you'd improve it in some way, or do it in half the time etc. Anything over 12 is a fail, meaning you lose something and are unable to complete your task.
Rolling a 1, a fumble, would be not noticing dropping a nut into the internals... and sucking into a cylinder on startup.
Sometimes I walk around with my dice and roll them when someone asks me a question... maybe I'll bring them to CRaP. I'll just have to test my Social Acceptance skill to see if I will..

And yeah, Top Trumps count! That's like a very simplified version of roleplaying (no Glyn not THAT kind of roleplaying). The random values in Top Trumps is what makes it fun. In desktop roleplaying, you have lots random values, a dice having a final say and someone telling a story that the players interract with. Fun. But you can't talk about it in the pub

Im assumimg you are a D&D player tom. Or possibly cyberpunk? I am a 40k player. Make of that what you will.
Re: What's the geekiest thing you've ever looked up on ebay?
A mixture of Cyberpunk and Shadowrun. And a special version of D&D that doesn't take two thousand years to get through a single round of combat. Warhammer eh? Not my thing but.... well, I'm glad we understand each other

Re: What's the geekiest thing you've ever looked up on ebay?
Not the geekiest, or is it, but I once tried to get a VHS of a kids programme from when I was very, very, very young. `Torchie the Battery Boy` (plenty of scope there Glyn...) This was a very early Gerry Anderson, pre supermarionation, Supercar etc. and was EXTREMELY rare. Deleted yrars before. One had gone to a buyer in the USA the week before for, I think, £120+. Anyway, I decided, the only way to go back down this particular alley of my distant childhood was to `bite the bullet` & get the video more or less regardless... And in any case - it WAS a collectors item so would hold it`s value. So, long story short, I did win the video, for £79, and was able finally to watch the 6 episodes therein.
The DVD came out a few weeks later....
