Seriously???

Post by MS Injection »

I hope for the sake of all that is holy that they swapped the car over when out of sight for one destined for the scrap heap, and did not wreck a proper one :swear:

Hi,
Yes, I think they did the switch when the car was out of sight around the corner. The car was for sale on Ebay a few weeks before the programme was broadcast, so it couldn't have been destroyed.

Yeah, it looked a nice solid car. It would have been a real shame to trash it the name of entertainment.

Still a shame to wreck a half decent Capri in the name of a bit of a laugh.

Like all the chargers/mustangs/camaros that get destroyed in the name of entertainment.

I just don't get it. Even only a few years ago "shall we trash the supra at the end.... Nah. We will destroy the charger".

And around 33 mk1 escorts were destroyed recently in the name of entertainment.

As said, this car was sold on ebay, and actually advertised as being a 'TV car'.

Yeah I know, but it looks alright even seconds before the crash. For the prank to work they must have swapped it around the corner and the one that comes out at least has some good panels on it

Hi,
Some people somewhere must like Ant & Dec. However, there aren't any on this forum, it seems! :)

Didn't Ant and Dec use a Capri before for something? Guess they either have a soft spot for them, or hate them and want to see them destroyed! But yeah, the car driving round the corner is where they swap to the stunt driver or unpiloted car etc. Seems to quick a change for a driver swap so 2nd car seems more likely, doesn't mean it was a rustbucket beyond saving though unfortunately!

It's most likely that all is not what it seems, plenty of TV magic going on, who knows.

Hi,
A white 2.0GL on an earlier series of Saturday Night Takeaway in 2009.
A Capri was also featured in their 2006 film 'Alien Autopsy'.

You could be right there, but then, who hasn't got a soft spot for a good Capri? :)

True, a cut there would be the easiest thing in the world, but I think they'd want it done quickly to keep it real looking for that overgrown oompa lumpa!

Hey, that's no way to talk about 'The Duke'! :)
He's the wrong colour for an Oompa Loompa, although I can't make up my mind whether he's more Walnut or Dark Oak!

I did read that he quickly sussed what they were up to, and who they were. It's likely that, for the TV show, they all kept at it, it was a good little skit after all. For all we know the footage of the wrecked car could have been shot days after. Was that even a Capri and not a prop? TV magic is an incredible thing.
