Cringeworthy! Please skip to 25:50. You have possibly seen before but if you haven't, prepare to cringe. Also this woman is the best automotive journalist ever!

Hi,
I think this is a great video. The presenting style seems slightly wooden by todays standards, but television was much more formal in those days. Angela Rippon even used to present the show in the early days!! I am probably alone in thinking that "Old Top Gear" as they call it now, is better than the current incarnation of the programme. The 'old' Top Gear was there to inform viewers about cars, a point that is entirely lost in the current version. That's just me, and I am well aware that I am alone in this view!
All the best,
Andrew.

IIRC Angela Rippon owned a Capri at the time?

Hi,
I did not know that, great celebrity trivia! I wonder what other celebrities owned a Capri? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Mel, from 80s pop duo Mel & Kim, who owned a 280.
I'm pleased that someone else supports my view of Top Gear! It seems these days all the presenters do is drive cars sideways around the test track, which gets tiresome after a while.
Andrew.

I almost forgot that I read in an old CCI magazine that Cliff Richard owned a Capri! He drove it around because he did not want his Rolls Royce to be vandalised. I wonder if the radio in it was wired for sound? (sorry!)

It was a white Tickford, I`m sure it was on ebay within the last couple of years?
Murray Walker talked about owning one on a documentary once...
And seem to remember a 5th gear where they gave one as a prize, mentioned Tiff Needel owning one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrLmM8bZTZA

Great video of Angela in her Capri, thanks for posting.
I love that part of the clip with the pipe-smoking chap in the yellow Spitfire pulled over for speeding, saying "I think that ten miles an hour is rather splitting hairs, don't you?" and the copper replying "Yes, thank you, I will note that, thank you." ! How times change, these days you'd be dragged out the car and have a faceful of CS gas!
Andrew.

I like how when she is saying about bad drivers she's middle-laning it.

I watched that episode when it was broadcast only becuase my dad had one at the time and he was excited to see a capri on original top gear. That chris fella still makes random apperances on TV too.
