Hi,
I must be getting old. I just don't get the stretched tyre thing.

The 'slightly' stretched look can look good and offer a practical solution say if fitting slightly wider rims to a lowered car.

Ended up doing this on my old Volvo 850 - the previous owner had bunged on some 17 inch BBS split rims which were great but the 225/45 tryes were just to tall and wide for the arches - a set of 205/40's although slightly streched were perfect.

You note I use the word slightly - as said, there are those for whom reason seems to be lost as they try to out do the next person. Guess the same happened with 'balloon rear tyres' back in the day. Regarding fashion - crazy hairdos are one thing but crazy tyres it just gets dangerous.

Some of the pics and youtube clips of Honda Civic etcs I do wonder/hope it all knowing irony and they've just done it for the sake of posting it to internet forums...

I've thought that before now, when watching classic TV shows. On The Buses, or the old Carry On films, quiet, quaint streets, the odd car parked here and there. Now, it will be three cars on the drive and another two on the road, per house!

I always end up scanning the background scenery when watching programmes and films from the 70's and 80's, it's incredible how things have changed, not always for the best either!

The 'back in the day' books you can buy always amaze me, seeing old pictures of your local area (Birmingham for me) as it was and how it's now changed beyond recognition.

There is a tour of Southampton that someone did in 94 with a hand held video camera and a Rover I think. They drove round pointing things out. I didn't realise how much the place had changed.

1994 doesn't seem that long ago but it looks so dated, I doubt hardly any of the cars are still on the road now!

:agree: Great vid. Lots of fantastic cars on there that were commonplace twenty years ago, but must be virtually extinct now.

Plenty of those cars were no spring chicken then - Mk1 Fiesta, Metro and XR3i would likley be a decade plus in age then...

Hi,
I'll wager that in twenty years time we won't get misty-eyed reminiscing about the Ford Ecosport, Kia Picanto, Peugeot 3008 or anything else currently being sold.

Because there won't be any cars. My gloomy prediction.

As with so much now - cars just don't occupy the same place in people's lives that they used to.

Saying that, I certainly didn't go misty eyed over that Citroen BX...
