Classic Car Insurance

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Hi Everyone,
It's insurance renewal time and I have just spent the whole afternoon getting insurance quotes. What a nightmare!
I'm with Lancaster at the moment and they're OK, but I've not had any dealings with them other than paying my premium!
Does anyone have any recommendations based on their experiences?
All the best,
Andrew.

Im with admiral mate. Got classic car discount with them. Most companies wouldnt insure me so the choice was limited.

I haven't tried them yet, but might get a multicar quote just to see. Did you get the black box fitted with yours?
All the best,
Andrew.

Edit: Just got a multicar quote. Don't think I'll bother with them, almost twice as much as I'm paying individually!

I use lancaster for my 2.0, really good IMO as accept the mods and very reasonable on price.

Use admiral for the 3.0 and also been good, didn't bat an eyelid at the non standard exhaust.

Both were they cheapest, of the big companies, for each of the cars.

Best to phone them and talk about your specific needs and any clauses and small print.

All the best

Thanks for the advice, all the clauses and stuff are a minefield. I don't want to spend all day on the phone answering endless questions, so I'll phone around the companies once I've selected 2 or 3 of the best ones.

I will have to double check that with my insurer, as I don't think you can even get a standard exhaust for the 2.8 anymore!

All the best,
Andrew.

I have been with Adrian flux for a few years but this year it went up from £120 to £280 so told them to take a jump, they also only use a 0800 free phone number to contact them on, OK if you have access to a land line but at as I work in customers houses I don't, so have to use my mobile then it becomes a premium rate number and when I had to use them to have my screen changed it cost me over £18 for the call, and I also put a friend on my insurance and that was another £54, I use peter best on my Mercedes and they have no 0800 number, and when I put on another driver it was only £15 for a admin charge, and so much easier to deal with and I have just put my capri over to them and they are doing it for £125 including all mods and agreed value. Only down side is you have to be a member of a proper club so I had to rejoin cci.

Didnt have the box fitted cuz its the worse idea ever imo.

Im paying 500 quid for my capri a year which im assuming will go down next year when im 25

Thanks for the info, Mike. I must admit I've never even heard of Peter Best, but they sound like the sort of people I like to do business with. I'll give them a try later this week.
All the best,
Andrew.

:agree:
I was following a car about a week ago which was driving along incredibly slowly. It was going through the 30MPH limits at around 20MPH, and got up to a speedy 40MPH on the national speed limit roads. :x There was a sign in the back window of this car explaining that the driver was driving carefully because there was a black box fitted! I would rather pay an extra premium than have to drive like that! I didn't stay behind them for long! :drive:

If it records every trip and everything u do all it takes is to mess up at an island and have to boot the accelerator then it looks like you been doing pull offs to race.

As u say people go slow which causes other drivers to get annoyd then some do silly things.

I'm insured with Aviva. I got my first years ever driving at age 21 on the 1.6 capri for 599 fully comp. My second year I'm currently paying £302 for the year fully comp monthly. Thats with mods they didnt care about and no black boxes or doing anything special to get the rate. Granted I live country bound in the highlands but It's not much of a hike runnng a quote pretending I lived in inverness.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I've tried Aviva before and for some reason they've never been anywhere near competitive with their quotes.
I will probably go with Footman James for this year. Does anyone have any experience with these?
All the best,
Andrew.

Try Barry Grainger Insurance (BG Insurance), saved me a fortune over adrian fleece, and didn't sniff at all my mods.

Hi Rich, thanks for your recommendation. 8-)
Another insurer I've never heard of! I'll call them for a quote and see what they say.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for that. I've just had a quick look at their website and they seem OK. I will have a chat with them tomorrow.

Hi Burtr,
I will give you a call on Friday and challenge you to beat my best quotation! ;)
My best quotation so far is half the price of the renewal from my current insurer. I'm well pleased!
All the best,
Andrew.
