NOS Half-Leather Driver's Seat (very boring post)

Post by Jack Walsh »

(The following post is probably of little or no interest to most folks, so feel free to skip this one!)

I've been looking for a mint half-leather interior for a while or, more specifically, a driver's seat. Like many out there, my current driver's seat has some wear to the bolster.

A couple of days ago I saw a 'NOS' seat on ebay - which looked in great condition; although, if I'm honest, I was a little skeptical as to whether it was actual NOS or whether it was merely a VGC original (or even one that had been restored).

Anyhow, I thought I'd take a punt.........

I've got to say, it looks like the real deal?

The previous owner bought it in 1986 from Ford in Nottingham for £100odd quid, and he thinks it was ordered as a replacement but never fitted. The previous owner, quite wisely, fitted some old runners to keep it off the floor.

My problem is that it's much nicer than I expected and I'm not sure about fitting it in my car!

Anyway, like I said - a very boring post!

Very nice! Like you say though, is it even too good to use? Would be a shame to wear and tear such a fine seat, but then again, that's what it was made for. Tricky.

Indeed.

I might either put it in a cupboard upstairs, or donate* it to someone who has an absolutely mint 2.8i Special.

*Sell, probably.

Hi,
Fantastic seat, a real find. Is it the one that ASJ was selling?
A bargain if you really wanted one, as you wouldn't ever find another.
All the best,
Andrew.

That's the one that Alan Jarvis had, I saw it the other week, you've got a cracking deal there.

Use it!!! Nothing worse than a namby pamby that never touches their prised possession. My car was all minty last summer and now its balls. Guess what, I'll make it all minty again this summer. Install it and when it’s blocks, get it sorted. If you were to kark it tomorrow just before I bet you’d regret not having sat in a fine new seat.

I think what you're trying to say there Nathan, is that life is very short. And you're right, it is!

Hi Dan/VP.

I totally understand what you're saying, but.....

I think it's good that there are lots of different approaches to Capri ownership - those that like to modify them; or keep things standard; race them, use them daily or those that like to preserve them.

Personally, I fit into the final category - I like to keep things as pristine as possible, thus preserving them for the next owner. It would be a shame if everyone was like me, because we would rarely see them on the roads. Similarly, if everyone used them daily then there would eventually be very few left in good condition.

btw VP - what are you doing to your cars that you can change them from being in mint condition to 'balls' in a matter of months? That said, it's entirely up to you what you do with you car - none of my business, I suppose!

Anyway, the seat will be in a cupboard until someone deserving wants it - or I find myself on a metaphorical sinking ship.

All fair points. If it was me that owned that seat I would be in a right quandry, use it and enjoy it or preserve it and cherish it... goodness I'm stressed just thinking about it!
