Just in case anyone`s interested, Uwe Bahnsen who designed, amongst others, the MkII Capri, Taunus, MkIII Escort & Sierra died 30th of July aged 83. R.I.P.
Seemed worth a mention?

Re: Uwe Bahnsen
Well bloody hell. I read the other month that the chap who designed the Cortina sadly passed away, and I remember wondering at the time "who designed the capri and is he still around?"
Definately worth a mention, heres to Uwe!

Re: Uwe Bahnsen
It was a team led by American Phil Clark. He was also involved with the Mustang design.rich_jc wrote:"who designed the capri and is he still around?"
Re: Uwe Bahnsen
No, I specified the MarkII. Phil Clarke led initial team in `60s, but actually died before the Mark 1 was launched.
Just out of interest, who`d have thought they`d codename the mustang project this:
" The Mustang name was kept under wraps with the code name "Allegro" assigned to the entire project"

Yes you did Steve, no worries. But Rich said 'who designed the Capri', and I thought that was a team with Phil Clark.stevemarl wrote:No, I specified the MarkII. Phil Clarke led initial team in `60s, but actually died before the Mark 1 was launched.

Re: Uwe Bahnsen
I just googled him, and found a link to this site...
http://www.caprihome.de/capri.htm
Now I love the rear quarter window on the capri, it is iconic in my mind. But that original design on the second picture down looks fantastic. (Yes, I know it is the mk1 and so Uwe was not involved).

Re: Uwe Bahnsen
It was dropped very late on as a result of feedback from the `customer clinics` which they`d run in various european cities. Punters found the back seats very claustrophobic - but I agree, very characterful! (I`ve one photo of a pre-production with different windows on each side!)
