It's funny, I always found that Valvemaster sooted-up my spark plugs but it really did the trick in terms of preventing the valve seats recessing. On the subject of 4-star stations, there is one not far from where I live (it's in Holmes Chapel in Cheshire). It's called Jubilee garage or something like that. They have a board outside that says they sell "real leaded 4-star", and when I first got my Capri, they confirmed to me over the phone that it really was the real deal with TEL in it, and not LRP. Last time I filled up on it (earlier this year), from vague memory it was something like £1.80 a litre.

Just a word of caution to people who use additives... don't chop-and-change between real 4* and your additive if you use Millers, Superblend, or Redline. Basically any additive based on potassium or sodium compounds. If you mix metallic fuel additives (e.g. lead with potassium), it leads to the formation of low melting-point deposits which corrode your exhaust valves and actually cause them to burn out quicker.

As far as I know, Valvemaster users should be OK to put in the odd tank of 4* when the mood takes them.

This garage is the Shell garage between Royston and Baldock. He sells it due to his own classic car collection. It is s I understand it real and not lrp, He orders in especially from Shell. You can order whatever stock you want from Shell, he orders this for himself and sells to the public as an additional service. It's not illegal to sell 4 Star.

That'd good to know Jack. I use millers, and wouldn't have given it a thought to putting some 4* in.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry to be resurrecting an old thread. but I thought it was worth mentioning that R.E.Mills motor engineers in Leicester has a sign outside saying that they sell leaded 4 star petrol. The friendly gentlemen also comes out to serve you while you sit in your warm car. A real blast from the past, I thought I'd wandered onto the set of Heartbeat or something!
All the best,
Andrew.

Hi everyone,
I understand that 4 star petrol is worth it's weight in gold, but that's just a little too pricey for me!
All the best,
Andrew
