What does everyone do for work?

Post by benb404 »

I'm pretty bored at work at the moment so I was wondering. What does everyone else do for work? or what people did by they were unfortuantly laid off?

I'm a trainee HP Exstream Developer in letter developement. Been doing it for 7-8 months now. I basically create letters and put heaps of code behind them so they come out with the correct peoples data.

So how about you? :nopity:

I used to work for the council a year ago.. now I'm unemployed and on the sick.

Sucks.. worked full time since I was 18. Never been on benefits before.

But I write and do cars and I am to take part in some studies.. I've seen what happens to people who are off for ages with nothing to do, they go wierd!

I feel for the people that either loose their jobs or have to leave for certain reasons. You just get stuck in the unemployment circle.

Do you reckon the weirdness has started yet?

I wanted to be a games tester as a kid. Then heard you had to test stupid stuff over and over. Like walking through a doorway at different angles, crawling, etc over and over.

Is that true?

Operations Manager in distribution working for a large American owned retailer.
Been in the distribution/logistics game since 1985. Made redundant three times during my working life so I know how tough it can be. I set myself three month targets to find another job, this included writing & posting 100's of letters with a reply rate of less than 1% and knocking on doors with my CV.

I actually got a job by doing this. They weren't actually looking for someone at the time but were impressed that I had got off my arse and knocked on their door. I sympathise with anyone out of work when it is not of their making.

Pretty much! It's not all bad, but spending days on end pulling network cables out of an Xbox in every area of a game gets old pretty quick...

23 years in the RAF as a propulsion and aiframes technician. Got to the giddy heights of Chief Technician. Worked on Tornado, VC10, Canberra, then Tornado again. Went all over the world, including the 1st Gulf War with 617 Sqn. (so technically I'm a war veteran!) Got out on a redundancy programme in 2005. Learned to drive artics on a resettlement course. Spent three years driving all round the UK and Europe for Abels Removals, the Queen's removal company. Then the housing crisis hit the trade so I managed to wriggle back into RAF Marham ,this time subcontracting to BAESystems. I control all the documentation and build the new Log Books for the Tornado fleet as they pass through Marham on their in-depth maintenance cycles.
