your favourite Xmas drink?
your favourite Xmas drink?
well the reason I am asking as I have manly been a cider monkey for as long as I can remember but this year a friend has introduced me to port, although I have had port before and not really thought much of it. I now have a massive taste for it and have started to drink it buy the wine glass is this me just getting older or is it just because its Xmas.
so what is your favourite xmas drink?
so what is your favourite xmas drink?
Re: your favourite Xmas drink?
Wifey always buys me a bottle of Port ands a lump of Stilton for Xmas.
Love Port, but it's probably the one drink that could make me an alcoholic..............kind of sneaks up on you.
Never forget being with my brother the first time he met his future father-in-law.
He offered us both a glass of vintage port....brother nearly scuppered his chances there and then with "haven't you got any fresh stuff?"

Re: your favourite Xmas drink?
Ale. Good ale.
And yeah I can totally meet you on the port front... sherry's good too. Man I've had some of my most insane alcohol moments with sherry.. got me into lots of trouble.
Plus I do love a good puff of the other good stuff too.

Late Bottled Vintage is my fave, even such as Morrison's own brand is good stuff as it comes from reputable yards but it is so tasty you soon get the chance to try the different names
A good bonus is that it tastes and looks very similar to red wine but with maybe a bit more kick so she'll still get giggly with only one glass. My latest bottle (Cockburns Fine Ruby) is standing empty on the kitchen windowsill - no worries though, I'll be out shopping this weekend.

It's all about the port!
My usual christmas drinks list goes a little bit like...
Christmas eve... Start drinking at about half two when the turkey goes in the oven (we do christmas dinner on Christmas eve, German roots!). We'll start with the ale (Ringwood and Badger are the local breweries, both good winter choices, plus hopback in the summer, good brewing area!)
Then port until the wee hours (usually around a bottle)
Christmas morning is a champagne brunch then beer and more port for the rest of the day. Hit the scotch at about 6. Asleep at about 7.
Boxing day, hair of the dog at the pub and relax. Can't wait, it's the only time of year I really drink any more!

Stomach of steel... is that why it rejects alcohol onto the nearest pub floor??

No, no, no! Wasn't me who was sick. I'm only sick during labour and don't plan on that one again.
I'm the one who can't stand at the end of the night, not the sick one!

I like a drop of port too. mini, you could have the best of both worlds and add port to cider. It goes 'well' with a few things actually.
Hey Tom do you rememebr the communal sherry at CoC the other year!
I'm going to get well stocked up this year, I don't want to end up borrowing bottles of Malibu from the neighbours again, or syphoning petrol out of the car.

No one has mentioned mulled wine yet. The taste of that always makes me think of Christmas.

Mmmmmm mulled wine
Re: your favourite Xmas drink?
Currently drinking mulled wine and can say that after the first glass i'd rather go normal rather than the special. The special stuff is sweet and great for one glass, but by the end of the bottle (or case in my case) the sweet stuff is a bit too much........Can't be bothered to make the stuff as always end up spilling it everywhere.......Gee......wonder why that's the case
