A mate of mine has found God.

Post by Major_Tom »

..no shit right, always been a bit of a punk this guy, bit of a rebel and all that.. I think he's 35 now. He got into ketamine a while back.. now I'm all up for trying new things, but he really got a taste for the stuff apparently. He was doing loads and loads, behind our backs, by himself.. lying to his mates about it..

Apparently it's one of the most damaging things you can do long term. "It burns holes in your brain where thoughts used to be" as one of my housemates eloquently put it when we were talking about it yesterday. Anyway, I guess that's what's happened.

He's kicked everything, drink, drugs, smoking, everything, which is great, but too late, too late.. He's seared out a big God shaped hole in his lobes. Fzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. My facebook'd mates got a rambling, though convicted, email from him saying how we were all going to hell and that God had told him to spread the word and how he hears God's voice in his head...

Scary stuff.

He'd capitalised all the G's of God, but left the I's of "I am" all lower case. I found that quite sad. Well, I found all of it quite sad.

Kind of makes me glad I'm well into Capris instead of tonnes and tonnes of nasty drugs.

Take care out there everyone.

Ketamine- nasty stuff! If it can flat line a horse fuck knows what'll do to a mate! :?
People say you find god when you hit your lowest point? (k-hole) It may have saved his life though! Keep an eye on him and i'm sure he'll be ok.

One would hope so, but a number of people 'find God' during a psychotic episode and end up in more psychiatric difficulty as a result.

NB I'm a practising Roman Catholic, so I'm not just bashing believers here!

Yeah Invalid that's the worry. I think it's the result of damage rather than faith.

hopefully the group of bashers are supportive! As you say many find God at their lowest and bashers tend to know what support groups someone should join.

I am a basher myself so I have seen a few peeps coming out the otherside of such addictions (although the horse dope drug you mention is a new one to me) - most will never be what they were beforehand. Sounds like he has some terrible issues to work though so best of luck to him and i hope he can work through them quickley!

If the religious element stops the physical abuse surely its not the worst thing..
It's better trying to help someone back to reality/normality when theres still something to fix.

Yes, as said, it is great that he's kicked everything. But I don't hold out much hope for his stability of mind. Time will tell.

The particular worry here is that Ketamine provides out of body experiences, where one can see oneself...

...rather like omnipresence...

When a person with psychiatric difficulties 'finds god' it tends to be through a flashing epiphany, promising roses and light all the way.
Life isn't like that and the assumed sanctity of a religious life soon turn sour when the expectations of the particular faith get too much, or when a fellow believer does something which is far from a Christian act.
Some sections of Christianity promise heaven on earth or instant healing for illness/ injury...
...I can't assimilate that with my understanding of Christianity, but others do...
... some insist you go out and convert your friends, how will this redeemed fella feel when Tom won't sell the Capri and repent?

I've seen a number of adults with organic and developed cerebal chemical inbalance who have have their difficulties exascerbated with a confused (IMHO) idea of religion.

I keep on telling the kiddies at uni to rap in shovelling grams of Ket into themselves for the reasons mentioned.... Out of body stuff is never good.... But it is the 'in' drug seemingly. And they instantly come back with "Well think what you do to your liver!".....

I hope he gets sorted Tom, he's lucky he has friends like you who look out for him, come what may.

Thanks Mark that's nice of you to say.

I think there's nothing wrong with trying something, apart from crystal meth and smack I've tried everything, ket included. Good fun.

But every day? Every week? For years? Too much.

Eating a cream tart every day will eventually kill you. It's alright to have a cream tart here and there, but have too much and your body will deteriorate. Despite the fact they still taste good, a human body can only take so much punishment.

Same with fags. Have a 1-2 fags a day you'll probably live until a ripe old age, but smoke 40-60 a day and... well, it's too much innit. Your body will soon deteriorate. And where's the fun in that?
