I got made redundant earlier this year and to generate a bit of income started selling off old parts that i had left over from years ago... one item was a pinto head that had been modified a touch by me years ago... it looked like a rusty bit of scrap ....been on the scrap pile a couple of times but was saved at the last minute, I gave it a clean up and fitted some new cam bearings i had kicking around, and stuck it on ebay...... it didnt sell..so listed it again... still didnt sell......so i decided to find bottom end so i could build up a complete motor....

The block (and head that came with it) were said to of been removed from an RS2000 in about 1985 , I bunged it in the back of the car and waited til i got home to give it the once over... i paid 21 quid for it..... and as I loaded the head into the car that its casting date was 1988.... so there was the possibility of it been unleaded .



This is the ebay photo as it was when I picked it up.

The carb on it isnt the one for it, I have a nice 38DGAS for it... that will get the same treatment.
On a serious note... If anybody wants any work doing, engine work, carb repairs I am thinking of doing it as a business.

Yeah. You and my wife both need to get a life.

She's as mental as you. The laquer on her alloys had gone to crap over winter resulting in corrosion all round the band bit. Took her under 2 hours per rim to sand it off and polish them back up to a mirror shine with nothing more than sandpaper, a few mops, a £10 leccy drill and some Meguires metal polish. Cow.

Show off! Looking good though, I'd be too scared to let oil anywhere near that.

I got a bit more done today.... Im missing a few things too... I need a dip stick and would prefer a capri thermostat housing..... typical i sold one a few months back which was mint

I've got a genuine 2.0S dipstick sat in the old block under some carpet behind the shed & probably a stat housing in the garage loft.
I can get them as far as Hull (the Nippon Goshei plant at Saltend where Caedes works)

That is true....and I'm sure I can get them to move around a bit from there.


STOCK, how do you get things so shiny? It looks absoultely QUALITY!

Plus, what is that blue? It reminds me of an old Land Rover colour.

Live in a village near Goole, so that would be great.... Just out of intrest whats the old block like? And do you want rid? Im intrested in any unwanted pinto stuff....except electronic ingnition

I done a few carbs too.... some had been in bits and kicking around for years....


The paint is a metalflake blue, it still wants a coat of laquer yet.
All the shiny parts still want final polish too

The carb is polished.... the one in the photo was for a 1600 'kent' engine... it was made in 1969 so 40 years old..... thought it deserved a clean up..... guess i got carried away!

The block was the original from the Black 2.0S with about 95k on it but my mate's misses had run it low on oil & water and it's got a score up #3 bore, didn't sound ropey though. I fettled the head when I got it but she still smoked too much for an MOT so
I bolted in the old one from the Silver Laser.
The original bottom end is waiting for the next scrap weigh-in - maybe before xmas. Couple of old pre u/l heads in the loft that I doubt I'll get round to using.
I now have a spare 2.0S engine from one I chopped up last year so t'other bits are surplus to req.

I don't think Tom will want an old mill in the back of his new Focus though

so where abouts are you? I could maybe have a ride out....

Sory tpo hear about the job...I've got that bottom end from the engine you originally fitted the head to back in the day...it's cack though....the bottom end pistons have been 'sawed' off and so have the rods but I think they were good quality (forged) before...
