Well I've started work on the Mk2 again.
It's been used as a garden shed for the last 12 Months.
To kill the weekend boredom I've relocated the stuff stored inside to start a second attempt at getting it back on the road.
And Jonna should have done a better job at cremating it! That is a compliment Johnna as at least, I had a full wiring loam a bit singed, the first time round.
I got it up and running with only one headlight fault that the local car sparky could have fixed.
I've just emptied the shell today still to get rid of all the interior seats etc. But where the hell is all the spares, indicator stalks that were lent on good will.
I've found a huge section of the loom cut out. Basicaly all the time and effort I put into the car, not to mention Johnna's time was wasted!
I'm not sure where to even go with what is left! I'm going to get it running and back on the road because I'm not going to be beat on this one!
Stuburn? Yes and I'm going to need some help wiring wise as I'm no expert!
Any way enjoy the project picture!
A hell of a lot of the wiring loom is missing!

lol, theres always a bright side!
well youve certainly got your work cut out! wiring isnt too much of a headache, just gota be methodical and take your time. where abouts are you? id be happy to help with the wiring.
could you track down a spare loom anywhere?
keep at it though, itl be worth it in the end!
"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Looking good Matty!!!!
Or at least it will be soon anyway lol!
As for the wiring, I had to rewire more or less everything that goes to/from the steering column on the LS only a few weeks ago, so hopefully I'll be able to help, a bit anyway! Like Nat said it's a case of being methodical and patient, and not letting it do your nut in lol!
Good luck and remember my offer!

Interior has now been stripped....
I can see the wiring loom going down both of the door cills to the rear. My camera has been playing up all day but a couple of pics of the front passenger area are attatched. I can see the full wiring run as originally fitted.
Last time the car was here I never had to start from scratch as it had a loom in place.
I had every thing bar a head light fault sussed. The previous owner then cut everything back out. I'm not going to comment on that one.
Any way now I have a gutted shell on wheels so that I can see where the loom goes. To be honest the shell is probally in better condition than the 2.8i that I also have.
2 pics from today's effort below.
I hate the start of a project as I have little or no enthusaisim. It's only when I get into whats necessary to finish or move it on that I get motivated
Roof paint work that needs to be bare metaled
Paint on the car is 2 different mediums and is an older restoration. How ever the roof can be quickly sorted with a grinder and acid etched / sealed.
The main aspect I'm going to be needing advice with will be the rewire and Carbs hopefully.
I don't want to scrap it but is tempting.

Has brought my urine up to boiling point...
...where is the ****ing loom I bought him?
Don't break it young Matthew, give it away if needs be...
...could always give it to Mark, as he has surrounded himself with Capris as a spinster does cats...
...wonder if he smells of mint imperials and wee???
Any roads, it should be just about the easiest car in the world to rewire. In fact, could even make a loom for it. Simple 12v system, neg earth, very few 'toys' and gizmos...
Me and my apprentice could be available for a day of wiring/ re-wiring when we get back from Tenerife.

Who would benefit from taking that test Johnna!
He had a bit of an embarassing encounter once with a shemale. And we all knew what he/she/it was before he took he/she/it home! Bastards eh?

Re: if you need help with the electrics
Thanks, Tas.
When I get a bit more clued up which wiring can still be used, I'll ask you what certain symbols mean on the wiring schematics so I can work through the logics of the of the original loom.
Hardest part for me is working blind as I can't properly read the technical drawings/schematics (electrical) in Haynes or Autodata Manuals.
Thanks for the kind offer of help. Project is still in the very early stages of establishing what is there.

Re: Has brought my urine up to boiling point...
Jonna,
Looking at what I found in the car, spares switches ect.. was not as much as I was expecting, i.e. the spares that were given to the previous owner.
Wiring wise. Parts wise I found, possibly the loom section you refer to? Was it bound in silver electrical tape? By no means a complete loom, but it does have the multi plugs etc.
I also have a nearly full loom supplied by Niel, No2lurch. That loom came out of a laser.
Yeh I was fuming also when I realised the amount of damage and missing parts. After a couple of day's reflection the oly possible area of the original loom that could cause a short may have been the LHS front foot well.I might not have cut enough back the last time. And i did not do a continuity test backwards from that point. Engine loom was tested though.
No I'm not going to scrap the car. I was tempted though. We put too much time and effort in to save it from being scrapped a couple of year's back. When the local kids where Tom lived were going to kill it.

Re: if you need help with the electrics
Same goes Matty , I have a MKII 2L, so i can inspect any of the wiring if needed , I can`t find the thread where someone tried a MKIII loom in a MKII , but he`s right, it will ne work unless you swap the whole loom over (engine, dash and rear loom)
Good luck
Matthew
