1.6L to 2L conversion...
In case this is what i'm going to do,
Is there anything i need to know about changing my 1.6 to a 2L? is everything pretty much in the same place or am i going to need any other new bits and bobs to do it...
oh yeah, and has anyone got a decent 2L engine they dont need!!!?

Simple swap..
..certainly for the engine.
I think there's some difference in flywheel size, so clutch too. But someone else can confirm this

Re: Simple swap..
..oh, fuel tank too, for matters relating to a 2.0 carburettor end its fuel return hose.. but that can be sorted easy peasy ,I've got a 1.6 tank on mine.

so there is a way around that
i was wondering about the fuel return when i was thinking about putting the twin carb in. would i need a bigger readiator for a 2L?
No, radiators are the same..
..but it's a good opportunity to drain it and flush it thoroughly.
Fuel return I attached to the tank breather... it has the downside that the tank no longer vents vapour when it gets hot and a vacuum builds up when you drive... but I just nicked the seal on the fuel filler cap and its fine now.

..I keep "coming to issue" whenever I see it.. being in an open plan office it is rather embarressing.

I have...
...a slendid little 1.6 sitting in my lock up looking for a car to "mate" with. Not run it myself but came from Glyn and he said it's a good one, no smoke etc. Ready to fit, weekend's work to do the swap (I might be persuaded to help, tow the car over here to do it if you like), slap the twin choke carb on at the same time - Robert's your mum's brother.

2.0 it, you know you want to...
When my engine went kaput, I was 350 miles from home!
Sourced a decent sierra pinto, swapped it over giving it a nice clean in the process.
Changing an engine is good as you get to replace all the gaskets and other parts that wear so once its done, you know they are all good.

thanks guy
i'll wait for the diagnosis that i'm set to recieve on monday.
peter bauldwin rang us up yesterday and said he hadnt had a look at the car yet but that he'd had a better idea, he had a friend in duxford whose a specialist with pintos and does stock cars, hes dead keen on capris and is pretty cheap, i think hes semi retired and does it more for the love now.
so we chatted to the guy on the phone, cyrill ansell, and then my friend very generously towed me from wimpole to duxford late last night where we settled my little car into his lovely garage, lots of interesting things down there.
it seems shes in the best hands right now and he said his collegue geoff couldnt wait to get his hands on a real car. always nice to have an enthusiast working on your car.
so theyre going to check out the damage on monday. he seemed optomistic that it could be fixed, so fingers crossed, i also left my twin choke carb with him. (ta for the offer dave)
i will keep you all posted on the progress.
I miss my car i have to get a bus home from work today

Go for a 2.0l really is worth it...
even more so if you can keep you 1.6 axle then bang the twin choke on it. there is a difference in the clutch you need but the kit costs pittence. Just block the fuel return off like Snake says.

yeah
thats what i was thinking, if i'm going to have to change the engine i might aswell upgrade to a 2L, i liked my little 1.6L but it's be nice to have a little more oomph! (will be such a shame to have to scrap my engine tho, worked so well otherwise, and only 55000 on the clock

if the pistons are ****ed, and who knows what else! we'll have to wait and see. i mean, if it were in a state to sell on i'd keep it in my car and use it myself

Dont scrap an engine...
It'll be worth something to someone, and to be fair, your prob is more likely to be head related anyway.

Re: Dont scrap an engine...
one of our club members is looking for a 1.6 for his Capri, he is only 19 so can't afford a big engine yet, i'll point you in his direction 2mora if you come along!!
