right my cappa doesnt like traffic atall, the temp guage starts creeping up and i dont like it, i think the viscous fan coupling mite be shagged so the fan isnt spinning as fast/as forcefully as it could, im going down the leccy fan route but i dont want any thermostats or anything, im just run a supply from the battery to a switch on the dash and then directly to the fan so i can turn it on and off when i want to, any whats a good fan to go for? im looking on ebay atm, i wannt sommat second hand, was thinking of this one?

Get yourself down to your nearest scrapyard, hunt around for a suitable sized one. You'll get one there for peanuts, and you can test it works across your car battery before you buy it.

im afraid there isnt a scrappy around me for miles, it would cost me more to drive to one than it would getting a fan on ebay

I used a 306/ berlingo/ zx/ zantia item from a diesel (xud engine). I got it for a fiver, it worked very well, plus I only had to use one of the fans, so I had a spare.

Google "nfauto" for a cheap, reliable, easy to install stat controller.

Did that loom arrive?

try the kenlowe leccy fan mate, theres a feature in octobers retro ford mag, thnk burton stock them..seem to be the dogs danglys..

I doubt very much that it's the viscous gear thats duff, mine will run fine even in summer weather without a fan on, if you fit an electric fan & remove the existing one there'll be no forced cooling at all and you risk overheating. I've got a fiesta fan on mine with a dash switch - have a look at it on my jobs page below:

Car Builder Solutions sell new fans at reasonable prices, and I have them on a couple of my cars.
Kenlowe or Pacet if money is no object.
I would be very wary of using a Capri temp guage as an indicator of engine temp. They are not well known for accuracy.
There are various ways of switching with a thermostat, but my personal favourite is to use a thermostat housing off an RS2000. Finding one will be fun, but making one shouldn't be that hard.

I got my fan from a old 323 mazda and the inline tempswitch from some old citreon ax I think, £5 for the lot haha

Got a Kenlowe on my V6 Sierra (already fitted when I bought the car) and it does the job well.

Not the cheapest option as already pointed out, but if you factor the time spent faffing around with potentialy suspect parts from a scrappy, buying a new kit makes sense to me...

thats a great idea mate i fitted one to the gold cappa before it got nicked ive taken it off to put on mine when i can be arsed they work quite well and easy to fit it realy came in handy

they're designed to be fitted in front of the rad as well so you got plenty of room and an easy install job..
rswww.com do cheap thermo switches, just thermo glue a 100 degree one to the rad and wire it through the fan jobs a good one...I'd suggest having a secondary manual over ride switch though just in case that fails.....

I went for a 13" Kenlowe. Very good bit of kit, though not cheap TBH.
