As I'm nearly finished the wiring, I decided to make the EDIS bracket so I know how long to cut all the wires.

Unlike my VR Bracket I managed to do this one first time without a bin full of rejects.







Just need to give it a coat of hammerite and its done

ive not mounted my edis yet although i know where its going. ive got a fuel pump and regulator to consider too you see. i havent tried mine in the proposed place yet, but will do as soon as the weather eases up!

Took me over an hour to decide, but I've finally chosen a position for the MJ.



Just held in place with some welding wire just now. There are a couple of holes in the metal its sitting against, so I'm going to make a right angled bracket type shelf to bolt it to.

The serial cable is connected and coming on on the passenger floor just now. I'm probably going to feed this through to the glove box, where the cable will either live permanently connected, or I'll make a socket in the box to plug a cable into.

Realistically I reckon I'll be finished by the end of next weekend.

hopefully during this week though, it depends on weather and what hours im working (which i still dont know!)
ive got other jobs to do that are more important too though, like a patch for the mot, and working on the jetting for the mot, and getting tax, and a ton of jobs to do around the home!... so yeah this week sometime:$

after about an hour scratching my head, and then it hitting me with blinding obviousness i drilled my trigger wheel, also i finished the cut down shaft for the dissy mod

Finally got my EDIS plug wired in, after going to buy a new soldering iron due to mine breaking last night. Bloody fiddly job! I think next time I'll just cut wires and solder them together rather than taking plug apart. But its done now and will look nice and tidy once its wrapped.







And while I was buying some new grinding discs today I picked up this handy 500watt tripod light for £14



And my new CB arrived today so going to try and get it installed while I've got the lower dash off. But need to find a place it will fit.

Got the MJ ECU installed in the car now. I had to tap the holes by the steering column. A bit scary as first time I've tapped a hole, and I could just see it all going wrong. But worked out great.

My Brackets. From left to right, the MJ holder, VR Sensor and EDIS bracket:


I couldn't get the tap holder into the restricted space, so made my own:

Just waiting on a pizza arriving now, then going to wire the plug to the MJ up. Then tomorrow I'm going to drill the crank pulley and attach trigger. So fingers crossed I'll be done by Monday

Ok, a bit of a disaster, but not completely.

I drilled 5 holes in same place as Colin's, but too close to the centre of the pulley so it broke through the wall and hence I couldn't tap it.

So I started again and did another 3. The trigger wheel was first attached with epoxy before drilling. So hopefully that + the 3 bolts will hold it in place. Otherwise I'll need another trigger.

i cant see it being a problem. just be aware that it could crack on the thinner walled sections, but dont worry too much, its unlikely.

I got mine all plumbed up and running. loaded two maps and its a goodun.

runs soo much smoother already!
cant wait to start tuning it.

Just got her running on EDIS. First start up failed, but swapped polarity on the VR sensor and started up.

Check with timing light and looks like its at about 9.5 degrees, but that all depends on the angle you look at. So far so good though I reckon.

Just need to wire plug to MJ side and attach my new breather and adapters to feed the MAP.

Gonna make some dinner now then try and get it all finished as I have to drive it to work tomorrow.

mine was spot on 10 degrees (well maybe 10.8 degrees) but you really cant tell much. so im happy with that.i just want to toon it now!

Ok, its all up and running.



Engine bay still a bit muddy from last weeks adventure.

Cocked up a couple of times. HT leads were very long and I ended up melting one to the exhaust manifold. The I wired the PIP/SAW to 1 & 2 instead of 1 & 3 on EDIS, probably getting distracted by the shipping forecast on Radio 4.

Anyway, got it tested and I could see the timing change. A little bit scary how it looks, it just immediately changes. Funny after so many times looking at it while turning the dizzy.

I haven't driven it yet though, as I'm sure the neighbors are already pissed off with all the revving. So the trip to work tomorrow will be the test! Then tomorrow night, just need to shorten a couple of HT leads and tidy up a bit.

Big thanks to Colin for helping me out so much at the beginning, without whom I think we'd all have taken a lot longer.

Had a very uncomfortable journey to work today.

22 miles of misfiring!!! I think misfiring is the word anyway. The car was juddering and the RPM gauge kept dropping from 2500 to 2000. At one point it even cut out completely! When that happened I unplugged the MJ to run it on EDIS alone but the problem was still there.

I reckon it's either:
VR Sensor Plug (it was abit dodgy)
VR Sensor Cable Sheilding
HT Leads

I'll have another 22 miles of misfiring to get home tonight, then hopefully I can sort it.

ive not driven mine yet- im guna go out and try it l8a! sorry to hear of your probs.

it could be ht leads, or like you say the vr sensor. could be something as simple at the bracket vibrating or perhaps just a dodgy wire somewhere?

it pulls soooo much better than it did (cant hear any pinking, but then i wouldnt with the whining and hissing!) but it pulls cleanly through most of the rev range. benifits so much more from 14 degrees of advance compared to 8!

the map needs work though, it doesnt pull quite as cleanly as it used to in a higher gear and slower speed, say 3rd at 30mph. but that can easily be sorted.

to improve things further im going to retune the carb so its not rich all the time anymore. now that i have this system in i dont have to worry about some of the rev range having too much advance.

really wish i could detect knock easily though would make tuning much easier.

How do you know the order of the spark plugs? The coil pack has 1, 2, 3, 4 on the sticker on the top. I have gone by that assuming 1 is closest to the radiator. Is that right?

Check HT leads before leaving work and they seem fine. Gonna try a different plug on the VR Sensor, then check earth on the cable.

Trip home was horrible. Nasty misfires, running too hot, and back firing through the carb.

Also if I hook up the computer while its running I get a "timeout reading runtime data" message.

number one is the spark plug closest to the radiator, and number 4 is closest to the bulkhead.

i would ask about the time out message on the autosports forum, im sure ive read problems on that before. Do you deffo have the lastest configuration software (the software that goes on your computer)

spitting back through the carb is a timing issue, too advanced id say. Does your base map definately load and stay with the mjl?

can you get your computer to keep working with your the mjl when the engine is running but the car stationary?

have you also tested for voltages at the pip and saw wires?

im sorry i cant be much more help as im still learning myself.

the backfiring through the carb, as i said sounds like its too advanced, it could be running on the map that comes on the mjl when boxed from brent and yours isnt loading properly.
