Goodbye Ashtray, Hello Cobra!

Post by Beakster »

Hey,

Finished my CB installation tonight. Looks straight forward but its taken me 20 hours! Alot of that time spend filling plastic with a breathing mask so I didn't inhale it. But then I always take a ridiculous amount of time to do anything on the car.

I cut the ashtray out, and fabricated a bracket to hold the CB. The bracket screws through to 2 screws inside at the top of the ashtray, and has a couple of bolts through another bit of metal which is part of the shell further back. So no drilling into the car required! I've also bought a new lower dash off ebay so it will be nice and easy to change it back to standard if I have to! :)

I don't smoke so don't really need the ashtray. I'll just have to keep my spare fuses in the arm rest now, along with the Valvemaster. And I've lost the cig lighter too which I use for my cool box, but I'll wire a little block of 2 or 3 of them into the glovebox at some point.

Ashtray cut out:

Bracket in place with CB bolted on. I might spray it with hammerite at somepoint:

have you got it all SWR'd in? thats more an fm reciever than a conventional cb yeah? have to dial in the long number to equate to i.e channel 19?

If you need a SWR meter let me know and i'll bring mine next weekend.

Yeah, its all SWR'ed in. Got a SWR meter but cheers for the offer. :)

Furthest I've reached so far with it is Spain. The radio does FM, CW, USB, LSB and AM. To get UK 19 I have to choose the correct frequency, 27.7812 which I've memorised now.

I'll have it at DICC with my new 18 foot antenna :)Image

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.
