how do i tell if a pinto block is a low comp engine? (other than ripping it apart?- like are there any numbers or markings on the block that distinguish it as a low comp engine?
I know low comps were used in transists and i think it was done by using different pistons? anyone got any pics of said pistons? or know where they can be bought these days?
ta!
"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.
Low comp id??

Re: Low comp id??
Nat I'll have a look at the engine that's in my mates Escort tommorow. I know it's a low comp block out of a Transit.
There is also a bare pinto block sat behind it. So I'll see if there is any difference.
Not sure if there is any external identifcation other than the engine No. I'm on the case mate.

No markings on the block, as they use exactly the same block
You need to take the head off, low comp pistons will sit 10mm further down the bore, normal ones come to about 5 thou from the top (allmost level).

Thanks Matty &Glyn.........
So the transit pistons are different?- not just 10mm machined off the crowns? - from what i remember that would be impossible cos the top ring would be floating about on its own.
Matt as Glyn has just given the answer, dont worry about the checking blocks thing, as im sure youl be wasting your time, thanks for the offer though.
Cheers Lads.
