DICC Not going to make it :-(

Post by Supercharged Nat »

unfortunately i cant make the weekend.. really sorry guys. i am however getting the capri dyno'd at northampton motorsport, but im on such a tight time scale, i dont think im even going to be able to nip down to the DICC show.

Bit of a bummer but theres nothing i can do.... but hopefully il have some poneys to boast about (or NOT!)

so what your betting guys how many poneys will my motor have?

have a great time at the meet, and enjoy your selves! Image

140-145, but a big step up in torque.

if you cant make it i wont cash the cheque, that goes for everyone.
but you really aint far away from northampton, 20 mins or so? its just a blast down 2 junctions of the M1 matey.

152 at the flywheel is my guess. Come on Nat, get that printout and show us what result you get. Great weather forecast, good crowd, you've just got to show up.

i was thinking along your lines Glyn

Post by Supercharged Nat »

not a huge power increase but nice torque. tomorra will tell!

i know im not far from you guys, and believe me i really would like to drop in (wouldnt be able to stay). it all depends on the time i get away from the R&R really.

its one of those situations where theres so much going on id rather not go out at all, but i did book the R&R with my bro and paid up, so i gota go.

it looks like i wont be coming, but should the much needed miricle happen, il call in and say hi.Image

Sorry guys, couldnt make it.

Post by Supercharged Nat »

i know it wasnt far but, as before, just too much going on.

on the plus side, the rolling road went well!

now ok, i know some of you might be expecting big power from this, but the truth is: 146.4BHP @ 5444 rpm and the flywheel, and 152.2lb ft @ 3633rpm.

So not massive. BUT i am very pleased with the result! the first supercharged pinto ive ever built, all the tuning done by me etc so not a bad effort i think.

now ive had a chat with the guys there ive got some ideas where to begin increasing the power and torque. (im going to be looking into cam overlap, boost pressure increases, teaking the carb even more, and setting up a knock sensor so i can tune the megajolt.)

then who knows, maybe a low comp block, massive boost, hooge charger?

il get the graphs sorted asap. the power curve looks good, pretty straight upto 5000rpm. torque is a bit spikey, but goes up swiftly!

let me know what you guys think. now im happy with what ive managed so far, im ready to start tuning the old gal for some real power !Image

REALLY is that it!?

I was expecting much more due to the set up of your engine as well as the charger. That is an eye opener I will be interested to see what mine does with the 45s on when she is set up. But still fair play to you Nat like you said its the first one you have built and tuned on your own my hat is off to you mate. You have achieved much more than I. I think you should go for bigger induction the weber 38 is good but I find it a pain in the ass, for true pinto power IMO is twin 45s they suit it just right. Then bang a charger on those bad boys. yep thats it

BUT as i said, no professional tuning as yet, and you gota admit, it fooking goes for 145bhp!

a set of 45's a decent cam and zorst will see that figure, if not better, but it wont deliver the power like my set up does, the 45's will idle rough, and wont pull much below 2500rpm, where as my setup, pulls from 1200 right upto 6000rpm. (im not trying to say mines better or anything like that!- just there are differences in the setups).

i reckon with the tuning still to be carried out, itl see about 160ish maybe more with 6-7psi of boost.

Itl almost keep up with my bro's astra coupe turbo- 2.0 16v T, on the rollers today it made 206bhp, and he dont get away from me that easily.

theres still plenty to be done to the old girl yet, before im done with ringing out every last poney, this is only the begining :) Image

So my guess was only 1bhp out then!

Post by Terra-Kotta »

Its not all that bad when you consider the chargers sapping around 15 bhp just to drive it, so before accountable losses id have said 160 bhp...

145 is nothing to be sniffed at really, to get 145 in aspo form does cost more than what youve spent on the charger set up, in aspo form youd be looking at a stage 2 head to get that really, so i think youve done well, respect to ya.

in standard form without the charger they top out at 130 for the aspo spec you have, eg FR32/38 DGAS and sports system.

i didnt cash your cheque by the way mate, its tore up now, no problem.

they where my thoughts too. gota remember that its still to be tuned properly. they way it went onto the rollers was how ive set it up to run ok (get me about/ do motorway runs etc). i know for a fact the higher rpm advance is too low (which will be adjusted in the near future).

good guess mate.

Il be making a new post in a sec with the graphs and videos! Image

O yeah dont get me wrong

thats why i was shocked it feels like a lot more but thats because it responds with power as soon as you put your foot down. where as mine does not really pull till about 2-2500 revs. I was expecting a reading more like 190bhp for you but the proof is in the readout you now have (why have you not posted a pic?)still good stuff though mate keep up the good work.Image
