And tell me that buying a Granada is a stupid idea. Actually, telling me won't do any good, you'll need to convince me!!!!

Re: Someone give me a slap....
Granada's are great. Nice and big and comfy but ridiculously cheap. And when you are done with it there are lots of bits on it that can used on your Capri

Exactly Chris.
Big, comfy and cheap. I have to admit I do miss the old Granny Scorpio. Maybe I should go for a mk2 though. At least then it'll have metal bumpers.

Ah, a 2.8i....
Very nice. Either one of them, or a 2.8i Ghia X Executive, in black of course. It appears then that I'm not the only closset Granada lover.
Re: Ah, a 2.8i....
that black one above is a 2.8i Sport, hence the Recaro seats, only thing not original on it is it should have white alloys but the owner is on the case with that one!!

Re: Ah, a 2.8i....
As an open granada£fan i really like the granada-like-ness feel and look of the zephyrs. You can tell its an ancestor. 2.5 straight 6, with maunal column shift. Big bench seat in the front.
Typically, fords large saloon line ended up as£the seamonster scorpio in the 90s and died out. Now the biggest luxury ford you can buy now is a.....
£mondeo.
When ford UK should be selling something like this, imagine it as the new granada cosworth...
The big fast red one!

Mondeo facts...
I know you all love me going on about mondeos...
The new mondeo is actually bigger than the last granny/scorpio, so it is unlikely ford will make anything bigger.
That and the fact the new fiesta is about the same size as the first focus, ford must be thinking we're all getting fat or something.

Something bigger?
How about a nice Ford Fairlane:
Overall Length = 5153mm
With the standard Aussie choice of 4.0 Straight 6, or 5.4 V8

If you want a slap you've got one!
Mark,
Don't buy one. Huge car that guzzles petrol like you woundn't believe.
24v Cosworth is even worse.
I'd say get a diesel version and put a trilby hat on the back parcel shelf!
You know your getting old when you want a car like that Mark.
What about a sensible Corsa?

Ha ha Mark, Ok I'm a Scorpio owner.........
Mark,
I know you only posted to get a reaction, to see how many others on here would admit to have a similar affection to fords flagship barge.
First Granada I drove was a Mk2 2.8 Ghia X auto about 17 years back and I've loved them since.
Though for me due, to the size of the cars they must also be top spec.
As I've previously mentioned the TD may be a good option but I've never driven one. Good equivalents would be the Vauxhal Senatar with the BMW turbo diesel or a BMW530d/535d with I have driven and the BMW will give 38mpg on the motor way.
But yea I do love the exec barges and can be seen running round in a Scorpio Ultima 24v, these days.
The 2.8i has waited too long for a full repaint / rebuild. It's got to be done properly, as it's been on the back burner for nearly 4 years now.
