24v supercharger project...an update...
24v supercharger project...an update...
should hopefully finish the last of the bracing tomorrow, then will take some pictures of it all mounted up...
basically its mounted on top of the engine...., ive made up a big alloy plate that mounts on top of the original plenum, this is bolted up with some longer threaded bar that replace's the original plenum bolts, then the charger is bolted on top, here the cleaver bit, ive made up a brace that locates to the rear of the block, located in 4 positions on the rear of the block and it bolts to the alloy plate thats mounted on the plenum, this brace is all triangulated and made out of solid steel bars, then the brace extends along the top of the alloy plate and the charger actually bolts into the brace, so not only is it bolted to an alloy plate using the original plenum mounts, its is also mounted to the large steel brace bolted directly to the block itself.... then the front pulley tensioner is also bolted to this brace...all looks nice and meaty....
will take some piccies tomorrow when its done, its not painted or polished yet but you will get the idea....
gonna stick straight out the bonnet, mad max stylee!!

Fully Sick!
So are you blowing through the standard plenum and throttle body? Does that plate with the 3.8 on it come off so you can mount a scoop? Looks very impressive!

mmmmmm.....
Drool Makes me think about supercharging when I get back again haha... I'm not generally a fan of big brash 'out the bonnet' chargers, but I think that will look gorgeous!
Total number of friends who have so far managed to open the passenger door first time: 1.
some answers...
the top of the charger with the 3.8 logo on it is the outlet of the charger...the air come out there....its gonna go from there into an intercooler on the front then back into the plenum....the original throttle body will be stipp out and polished up to act as a way of getting the boosted air into the plenum, just hollowed out really....the throttle body is now linked to the rear of the charger...its the original setup with a 5.0L mustang throttle body, will have some piping down into the bay and then into a filter, probably a the front in cold air...
the supercharger is an eaton M90 from a 1994 ford thunderbird supercoupe....they had 3.8 liter v6 engines...same fuel injection as my 24v so that why it looks odd, theres no carbs on top like most 'traditional' chargers....it will be using bigger injectors, (440cc compared to the original 192cc) and have an emerald ECU....the charger will be matt black, with the matt black bonnet, with some subtle chrome bolts on al the fixings...
and a cosworth badg in place of the 3.8 logo....
there's a ford thunderbird supercoupe with the original eaton M90 going about that can do the quarter mile in 9.5 seconds..sounds mental...
should look really cool when done...and sound great...just like in the opening scene of i am legend when he's driving that supercharged mustang...!!
any more questions please ask...
it ll about 300 bhp when done and thats as far as i can take it with the stock bottom end...even then that will probably poo itself on the first track day i do...
then its new bottom end with lower compression forged pistons, stroker kit to 3.5 liter, ARP bolts and sump girdle...then up the RPM on the charger to 14,000 RPM from 10,000 at the moment, and it should see a good 500 BHP....with some headwork and cams and headers...and or course a new gearbox, oh and rear axel...oh and will probably need a new shell as well as it will probably twist itself into a banana with all the torque!!...fun aint it...

oh .....and....
wont be starting it for a while....still need to do the following...
new bigger radiator (already got a big Granada one, just need to fit it...
new bigger injectors...
new fuel regulator and remove old one...
fit an intercooler in there...
plum it all in to the charger...
block all the hole left over in the plenum....
fit new wide band oxygen sensor in the exhaust
fit exhaust gas temp sender in exhaust
a FULL re-wire of the entire car...including a whole new ECU and wiring loom...
oh and make a new dash up with a build in laptop...
maybe by the end of the year...??

Re: 24v supercharger project...an update...
I remember this build well. Don't think it ever got finished as the shell was more than a bit rotten. He had basically stripped everything off and painted or polished it but the shell itself was fubar. Hasn't been on the road since 2010.01mpope wrote:Bit of an ancient thread.. Re: 24v supercharger project...an update...
It would be interesting to see if he dropped it into another Capri or went for something else. After spending that much money on the engine setup I cant imagine he left it in a corner of his garage

Estonian guy made out of 24V cosworth with turbo 1124bhb after that crankshaft was gone.
