Daisy,

Sounds like a good usable increase in power. Is this still a 1.6? If so it is making similar power to the 2.0i now.

Glad to hear you got the car sorted.

its still a 1.6, but with a 2l twin carb. the stage 1 race cam makes a difference too :) 110 is more than standard 2L isnt it? either way, i'm loving the difference :) no more corsas trying to beat me now :)

...a bloody good figure for a 1.6 - can you divulge the "numbers" relating to that "stage 1" cam? If you can't can anyone else speculate what they might be?

good on ya! who did the work?very impressive figure, do you know that the torque numbers were?Image

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

not sure...

how the numbers would all break down....

When i took it in for rolling road last year it was as good as standard and pushing 80BHP (which is above standard for a 1.6 anyhoo)

Since then, i've:

got new twin exhaust,
new electronic ignition system,
new twin choke carb,
new stage 1 race cam,
whilst the head was off,
skimmed,
re jetted,
new k&n
oil change, new filter,
(new rad cap)
urm, can't think of what else, i'm sure i'm forgetting something!?

The guy that did the work (after mine broke) was cyril ansel, whose semi retired but works mostly with stock racing cars (hence the race cam - was the only one he had "laying about"!!!) and then when i had it back on the rolling road at peter bauldwins (who is awesome) cyril came down too so together they tuned it up a treat!

whats next!!? urm, maybe i'lll get the bumper end cap on and drivers side door trim!! ha ha!

That's a naughty camshaft then

Post by nigecapri »

to give a 30 odd percent lift in power. The 2.0 litre pinto on dgav carb doesn't make 110 so your 1.6 is impressive to say the least.

Now I was chuffed that my old 1600 hit 103bhp when the new owner had it RR'd!

Can I point out that a, the cam must be madly spiky, making it undriveable or...
b, the skimming has upped the compression to the perfect level.

I suspect the latter! Well done!

So anyone wanting to follow this blueprint, this IS NOT A BOLT ON JOB!

This is no criticism as 110bhp from 1600 is a mighty fine effort.

Best ever 1600 pinto??? It must be close if not the winner.Image Image

Surely that is home to the most powerful 1600 Pinto ever created! And the smokiest lol. And it had the noisiest brakes ever on a Capri but there you go.

Actually, can you remember what state of tune the engine was in when you had it? By the time I aquired it it had a 32/36 (correctly jetted I believe) a replacement cam of unknown type and a noisy (home made?) exhaust system. The exhaust appeared to be devoid of any silencers and fell to bits, quite literally on the A167 one day.
And yes, it will return to the road. One day....

any paper results like nat did, It's quite the old man place, but i'll ask my pa (as he was there on the outside of the car with pete) to divulge any more interesting info...

was skimmed (can't remember how much off, i'll check) and it has made such a difference. i'm told that the stage 1 race cam has made a massive difference compared to a standard one...

as far as driving goes, it's tuned so beautifully it's very smooth and purs like a kitten. It also seems to still have a mind of it's own and however u take to driving it it responds accordingly. it'll cruise easilly or if i really hoof it out of road it really leaps forward, changing gear it grabs the gear change, holds on and just accelerates pretty rapidly, the feel in power difference is amazing. lots of pull. it feels like a happy little car.

only thing is it might be ideling slightly too low, as in if i have my lights on too and it's ticking over might just randomly cut out. but thats not too much of a problem and i can certainly change it if i want to

:)

i'm a happy bunny
