Re: Trouble starting when hot.

Valve clearance can have a big effect too . If the clearances close up ( specially the intake ) it will spoil the idle ( much more noticeable when hot ) and this will add to hot starting issues . I have found that if the intake close up to 4=5 thou ( cold ) , should be 8-9 , that's enough to have a ...

Re: Trouble starting when hot.

What sort of carb ? Im thinking that the float level may be to high . Specially if its a 32/36 dgav as the black plastic floats can soak up fuel and not float properly . I nearly went mad till this penny dropped :D

Re: Bilstein suspension upgrade

They definately give the car a more positive feel on the road . If you want a daily driver/ cruiser then Id probly go for the rubber bushes as the poly bushes ........ harsh is the wrong word but they def aint creamy smooth. Having said that your choice of tires also has an effect on smoothness. and...

My poly bushes are a mix of Super pro and Nolethane . I even got the poly spring/diff mount things and it still swings its arse about like some twerker .............thinkin about it tho ( just now ) its probly done 30k miles on the shocks ( front and rear ) so past it best . Im holding out till I ca...

Re: Bilstein suspension upgrade

yep that's leaf springs for ya ( every little hole ) . Single leafs are a def improvement over multi leaf springs but still not a patch on a 4 bar rear end . Have you considered using Austin Princess calipers , with a spacer kit they will bolt straight on to crapi struts and vented 2.8 discs . They ...

Re: Bilstein suspension upgrade

I been looking at the brake / suspension on my Mk3 . All the advice I have gathered suggest ( strongly ) that the biggest influence is the size of the disc , like 4 pots on a 247mm disc is better than standard but standard 2 pots on a bigger disc would be better still. I been looking at Burtons and ...

Re: Starting issues

Um , why not connect the choke ?, and technique is important . Also check valve clearances as if they ( particularly the intakes ) are tight it will ruin your idle . Go with the spec,s provided by the cam manufacturer , not the standard Capri settings . It should be no harder to start than a stock m...

Re: Oil on gearbox

I had an oil drip from the fuel pump ( as it turned out ...........eventually ) which not only dripped on the steering rack boot ( a new one didn't stop the leak ) but also , when mobile , the drip would flick up and hit the block around the mount bosses and then run back along the top of the sump f...

Re: Running C3 automatic transmission without oil cooler?

If you got rubber hoses made for the job you'd be ok . I once had a 283 chev with a 2 speed power glide trans and I tried to make hoses and I can tell you that ordinary 1/2" oil hose didn't like either the pressure or the heat.(.exxon valdez ) slip-on fittings and hose clips don't cut it either...

Re: Incurable wheel wobble

I have had a bit of a wobble for quite a while now , been thru 4 roadworthy /safety tests , the last one I even mentioned the wobble . I have fitted new tires ( the old ones were shot ) ,then got them re- balanced and gave up ... learnt to live with it , but now I have just found the L H side tie ro...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

The choke flap will be 80 - 90% open when cold until you press the accelerator pedal then they snap shut and then open progressively as the engine coolant warms up . When you get in the car ... cold engine , you should press accelerator pedal ( most of the way) to the floor before starting . This se...

Re: Bumper Glue

depends on the type of plastic . PVC fridge liners can be repaired with acetone . We used to cut thin strips of the parent material and dissolve them in acetone until you have a mix like tooth paste ( if the parent material does actually dissolve your onto a win ) then paint the broken surfaces with...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Having a go is the best way to learn . The auto choke receives a bit of bad press but if it is set up properly they work just fine , probly the only real complaint I have is that it holds the choke in operation for to long , for me I start the car and every direction from home is at least 10km befor...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Sounds to me like your fiddling with the choke flap not the actual throttle butterflies , and they don't have much of a spring at all , they rely on the bimetal in the choke housing ( the one you have just finished moving all over the place :xd: ) to control that choke flap. You really need to get a...
