Re: Starting issue after long drive

Nylocs alone should be fine Nick. You only need spring washers if you regularly rev to 7k and over. If you do, you need the washers along with a Gartrac poly adjusting bracket otherwise it will keep coming loose. My mate Gary rev's his steel N/A YB to almost 9k and before the special bracket his alt...

Re: Capri 2.0 pinto starter motor

Disconnect the leads from the back of the starter motor, clean up the contacts and refit. If that doesn't work, your solenoid might be faulty.

Re: what keeps halfshafts in the axle

I should be in my usual spot in the grandstand. I like to take my own chair to be comfy.

Have worked the last 2 years so didn't get to see any cars running. Looking forward to some strip action now. Hotel booked, tickets printed. Game on!

Re: Starting issue after long drive

Been caught too many times leaving a car for 2 or 3 weeks and its flat due to radio code/clock etc  Now I always disconnect my battery when car not in use, even when I get to a show I do it, so in theory(?) battery should always be nearly fully charged. Too much grief for me - battery is under...

Re: Starting issue after long drive

I bought a brand new battery 8 weeks ago for my 3.2l Merc as it went flat and wouldn't hold a charge. Paid £85 from Halfrauds fitted. 6 weeks of hardly any use later and it was flat again. Changed the alternator but still kept going flat. Found out that the stereo was wired perm all the time and was...

I'm hoping you removed these and forgot rather than they weren't there
I was thinking the exact same thing

Re: Starting issue after long drive

Sounds like the battery is Duff but I would also take the time to disconnect the starter motor, clean up the connections and refit.

It was last week - the guy in the orange RS2000 is a friend. The first MK2 Escort is a GENUINE RS1800! Owes him well over 50k but he still drives it hard.

Re: Viscous fan for 2.8

^^^^ As you say, losses are small but in the drag racing world, electric pumps/fans are now std. Every BHP helps lol. When we 1st had our drag pinto engine built, we took it out for it's shakedown run and it was as flat as hell.. After much head scratching, we noticed that the viscous coupling had s...

Re: Oily cam belt

Give the dizzy cap a good clean and check that oil hasn't dripped down No1 plug recess etc. It'll be something simples. Whose electronic ignition have you got? If it's accuspark, (Or lackofspark as I call them) then go through the basics of checking for a spark on the king lead etc - They are prone ...

Re: Oily cam belt

I would change the gasket & the cam seal as a matter of course. As your engine is now interference, I would not risk the old belt when a new one is only £20 and 20min job?

Escort quickracks are readily available over here and I have heard that they can be adapted but I have no idea how as they are too narrow. As for the power steering, use Corsa C stuff as its readily available.

Re: Pinto Rocker Cover

I'm not 200% on this but Sierra covers didn't have them either. I think its a year thing. The later the car, the less on the rocker cover as when Ford starting injecting Pintos, there was no need for filter mounting and so they changed the design.
