Re: HT leads
Thanks for the replies guys. The spark plugs are showing the car running lean, so may not be the spark leads but I've tried all other possible options so not sure. I will run it in the dark and check for sparks and hold the leads while its running to see what happens but i think they are all ok in t...

Part on Capri that is straight/level.
Hey guys, I want to check my various fluid levels and want the car to be level but unfortunately my drive is on sloping ground. So was wondering if there is a part on the Capri that is level/parallel with the ground/needs to be level so that I can get the car more or less bang level?

Re: Cleaning the inside of the head lights
Never tried this but bicarb soda will scratch the glass as it is a mild abrasive so I would stick with the vinegar.

Re: Ghia Pinstripes
Wish I could help you sir. You basically have my dream Capri trim. Do you have a thread about this car? More relating to your topic, my LS has pin stripes when it should not so would think that these pin stripes were sometimes a dealer option rather than factory. However, it seems Ford would use wha...
Re: HT leads
Thanks for the reply Steve, unfortunately it is the bosch ones I have on there now. Had them on there about 2 years and the dizzy to coil lead decided to play up causing the car to not run properly and even die, and played around with the connection and it was still causing issues, so concerned that...

Winter Weekend Start Up
Hey guys, I currently run my Capri as a weekend driver throughout the year after demoting it from daily driver due to being unreliable. I use it every weekend when possible but with the weather getting colder and the fact I leave it a week in between driving I’m concerned with starting it after leav...

Re: Rear wheel resistance when handbrake off and rear axel jacked up
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. Yeah, its minimal resistance if you give the wheels a good spin so based on what you guys have said I'll assume they are ok as is. Cheers!

Rear wheel resistance when handbrake off and rear axel jacked up
So while the the car is jacked up and the rear axel gasket has been replaced, and under seal touched up, I've checked the rear wheels with the handbrake off, and spun them, and they don't spin completely freely, they do then around some point on the wheel there is a slight resistance. Is this normal...

Re: Rear Axel Gasket Replacement
All done, used soap, water and brillo pad to get it all off. Now I can't get the damn ARB bolts to do up now, because of the size of the bolt and the amount of clearance between the bracket, i can't get the damn socket on the square to torque them up. Do I need a really thin socket or something to g...

Re: Rear Axel Gasket Replacement
So got around to doing this today, and following the guide on this website all was going well. Got the rear ARB bushes to chassis undone and off nicely, and the brake pipes unclipped from axel and cover easy. Now I've hit two snags. 1) The anti roll bar does not move enough for me to get a socket o...

Cheers the replies guys. Got the car started tonight, kept replacing loads of bits around and testing for a spark, turns out the lead from the coil to the dizzy was faulty, so replaced for another and she is running again!

Re: Capri Mk3 1.6 AUTO CABARET II 1983
Hi Jim Thanks for your interest ! The Cabaret II was one of the Mark 3's which never had them fitted as standard. I have the original Ford Brochure (see photo) and they are nowhere to be seen ! Thanks for the reply Martin, that's very interesting because the Capri in the link you posted did? Must'v...

Re: Car is a b****
I wonder if the ballast resistor is either faulty or has been bypassed? That would give you full 12v ignition all the time, whereas it should run on about 9v. Could be burning out the condensors and points and overheating the coil? This was checked and was given the ok by an car electrics company w...

Car is a b****
Well, the symptoms from my old thread where the revs won't pick up and starts bucking then runs fine have become worse recently to the point now that the car has died and lost the spark...so obviously indication of electrical fault. Messed around with it the other night, and got it working again, fi...

Work with rocker cover off
Hey guys, after doing a compression test a while ago and finding my cylinders were all within 10 of each other and believe this is ok. I think i've narrowed down the oil burning down to valve stem seals due to getting a load of smoke on start up sometimes. Also, I think the irratic idling and hesita...
