It isn't good, do the job properly, get the springs polybushed. If you buy a good quality set they will outlast the car.

If you can't afford the £2.5k to have a decent paint job then you certainly won't be having the shell acid dipped as that will add another £2k plus to the job. There's plenty of people who reckon that they can paint but the truth is unless the prep is done to a high standard it doesn't matter. That'...

They're not interchangable. 4 speed bolts up with 6 bolts while the 5 speed has 4.

Piece of piss this one - use the correct spanner for the job and simply give a couple of good hard taps on the end of the spanner before trying to undo the viscous unit.

I don't understand why the MOT fills people with so much fear. Capris are a piece of piss to get a test on - if the car is sound in the body and is kept mechanically sound then what's the problem?

The simple fact that the holes in the bushes for the front bolts and the rear shackles are totally different sizes should tell you which way the springs go. They will only line up properly in one direction.
