Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

It’s a bit strange but the cars build date must be 40 years old as of jan 1st, however you can’t get historic status until April the 1st of that year. So on jan 1st 2019 your car was 39. They don’t make it easy

Re: Lock down jobs...

John, the CCI door seals are most likely Kent’s trims. The problem is the air can’t leave the deal fast enough that’s why the doors don’t shut. What you need to do is make the air holes which are under the fold of the rubber larger and a few more

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

All good thanks Jason. I bought some nice bright lime green ones to help this year but decided to use them as dusters as I don’t think the car will be going far this year, luckily I didn’t have to buy a tax

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

Let’s hope it’s one tick in the box, assuming the letter is correct you then need to send to the dvla to update there records with the correct month of manufacture

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

No worries, it’s no harm in getting the ford letter for your records and having the DVLA update there records to show the manufacture date as when that special time arrives it won’t be a bun fight with them all. I found the hardest thing to do was finding out what to do and how to go about it

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

Andy the only time you need the letter from fords is when the build date and reg date are over split years, I suppose the same have applied even since the change in taxation class was brought it.

Pm me your number and I will call you if you want

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

Andy I don’t think the build sheet would be good enough, the only thing the DVLA appeared to accept was a ford letter. One thing I would check would be the mot exemption, is that for a car 40 years old or a car registered under a taxation class as historic, worst case you need an mot until April 1st...

Re: 40 year Tax/MOT

I went though all this last year so can tell you exactly how it happens. My car was registered 9th jan 79 so the dvla needed to have prove of the build date, they do not accept VIN details. I obtained a letter from Ford Uk direct stating the build date to be December 78, which of course matches the ...

Re: New carpet

I think these are the first people to produce a moulded carpet, your right it’s not cheap but it should fit perfect for that money. All the other carpets that I have seen are stitched together and they are not the easiest to fit

Re: When did the "S" become a Laser?

I used to have a book on Capris that iirc said that the S suspension was very slightly uprated from standard pinto specs. I lent the book to the guy I got the black S from & he lost it - or his wifey binned it. Not in any way biased here but the S in black was/is always the best for bodywork. W...

Re: Door mirrors

I seem to remember seeing these mirrors with the screw or bolt on mk2 escorts, so if that’s correct you could have a mirror from a left hand drive mk2 escort. Anyway to solve your problem here is one for sale, I suppose it depends how much you want one, pretty rare stuff hence the ££ https://rover.e...

Re: How do I check 2.8 is factory original

I would say this car has a little history, according to the DVLA MOT site its been of the road or not MOTed between 2009 and 2019, the inner wings are 100% wrong for a 2.8, the nearside looks from the photo to rise towards the strut top so the strengthening plate may have been filled over, the drive...

Re: Core Plug

I always find a large socket that fits just inside the core plug and use that as a drift to knock the new one in flush with the block face after I have cleaned the block seat and wiped a little gasket sealant around the plug. Never had one leek
