<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> I did as you say. The manifold was well torqued. I then ran without coolant for 5 mins to give the glue a chance to set. After filling it and resetting timing it was running bad and water was spitting out of the exhausts. I went around the manifold afew times and all the bolts were...

I'll call engine shop tomorrow

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> I'll give the engine shop that skimmed the heads a call tomorrow and see what they say. Peter, I see what you are saying, but the fact that water is spitting out of the exhausts and steam is still coming out of the oil filler cap makes me think that the inlet manifold is not sittin...

This happens on both exh...

Nope

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> No I didnt get the inlet manifold skimmed too. I guess I'll need to do that then? Does it sound like this is the cause of my problems?<br/> <br/> The guy who skimmed the heads said they had been skimmed before. Will he know how much the inlet manifold needs skimmed by?<br/> <br/> T...

Re: Rocker Covers Full of Mayo

<t>Is it possible that water is being sucked into the cylinders with the fuel due to bad mating between heads and inlet manifold? Could the water also be getting into the rocker covers from here?<br/> <br/> I am thinking that maybe the inlet manifold isn't sitting totally flush with the heads becaus...

Rocker Covers Full of Mayo

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> Its just one thing after another with my capri.<br/> <br/> History:<br/> Heads were warped, so had skimmed and replaced gaskets. Ran ok for 2 days, set timing wrong (sparking at about 2 degrees unstead of 14.) Lost power on motorway and stalled, then wouldnt start when warm. Though...

Timing set to TDC

What would happen if I drove 30 miles, with the timing set to TDC instead of 12 degrees? Would this cause the problem I am having? I did this a few weeks back before I understood the manual, where is says set to "O" mark.

Engine Timing

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> I got the car to start. Managed it by rotating the distributer. This makes me think that maybe the engine timing is out. When it did start it ran really badly and stalled at low revs. I had to rotate the distributer so that the bit that sticks out that the air hose goes into was to...

Sorted

Found the plug. Pain in the ass to get at. Gave up on it and loosened the Thermostat housing to drain it. =)

When you said "remove the 90 degree hose at it's highest setting" do you mean where the hose goes into the inlet manifold?

Thanks

One last question

<t>I flushed the system recently and the coolant looks blue, so dont need to do that I think.<br/> <br/> Do I need to remove this plug above the oil filter? If I leave the radiator bottom hose off I guess it means there will never be any pressure in the system to breach the seal on the inlet manifol...

AIr Chamber Gasket on 2.8i

Hi,

Do I need to renew the air chamber gasket each time I take it off? I have a gasket for it, its very thin and papery. If I wanted a new gasket, where would I get one from?

Thanks

Running without coolant

Ok, I got a new Payen inlet gasket. Im going to fit it, torque up and run without coolant like you say. How long should I run it for before putting coolant it? It is safe to run the pump dry?

Thanks

Cheers

<t>I'll do that. Ordered a new gasket from Burtons today. The one I had I got in a gasket set off of ebay and the gaskets were all really crap. The Inlet one was just made of card as opposed to the same stuff as the head gaskets are made of.<br/> <br/> When it arrives I'll fit it and set to specifie...
