Re. Boot lock disassembly by D336Y (Q&A).
Andrew kindly provided a parts diagram from Haynes in which it says about removing the lock barrel from the boot lock assembly, “… by removing the circlip from the barrel housing. The spring, barrel and spider can then be detached and a new barrel fitted by reversing this procedure.” Reversing the p...

Re: Boot lock dis-assembly
Hello D366Y. It looks like you are at the stage where you need to remove the circlip. The lock assembly on our car was disassembled to the point as in the diagram provided by Andrew. The whole thing had seized solid. The barrel assembly was soaked in 2-stroke mixture for 36 hours. Why 2-stroke? It w...

Re: Water in footwell
Hello D 336Y My son's Capri also had water in the footwell. When it was washed a trickle of water could be seen coming from the heater area. I poured water into the intake slots and sure enough water appeared inside the car under the heater unit. It had been off the road for at least 4 years and als...

Hello Bug You infer that it's best, "... to give real world advice based on personal experience." Absolutely spot on. Couldn't agree more. And, of course, that's why forums such as this one are good to exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences in order to prevent costly mistakes or spendin...

Re: Electronic ignition - Ballast resistor
Hello Stevemarl Thanks for the input. I’m not saying that there aren’t 6v & 12v coils.Perhaps I should have opened my comment in a better way. Nevertheless, I wanted to bring “Caloverero’s” attention to the resistance across the terminals, which - as I understand - is important. As he said that ...

Re: Electronic ignition - Ballast resistor
Hello Calovero If you choose to use the Powerspark ignition kit there is information on the Powerspark Ignition – BLOG. It’s not a case of 12v or 6v coils: the ballast resistor supplies the coil with 6v under normal running conditions, i.e., the ignition switch is in the “run” position. Upon startin...

Re: Cassette player
When I bought our Capri it came with massive MAC speakers mounted in a home-made timber frame instead of the parcel shelf with which it was designed, plus matching door mounted “chrome bezelled” speakers fed by an ultra modern blue-green flashing disco unit hanging out of a large hacksawed-chiselled...

I’m pleased that this theme is an ongoing thing on the blog but unfortunately basic details of a stolen vehicle is not enough to catch these thieving bastards. We need to know such details as, Upholstery colour & design. Engine details: 6-cyl, 4-cyl any modifications etc. Gearbox & axle type...

'That’s a very strange 1st post ? And not about capris about bulbs in a house . I would say try the B&Q forum or Builders RUs'
Perhaps the B&Q Forum are now trying to figure out how you can fit fog lamps to a Capri.

Re: Brake Servo firewall seal
I didn't have to remove the servo from our car and I cannot remember how they look. The obvious solution is to try and locate a used one. If you have to improvise you could take a suitable hose/pipe cut to the same length as the circumference of the hole then carefully cut a slit along its length. Y...

Re: Brake Servo firewall seal
Hello Jrooney I've asked a company in Germany if they have such a seal by explaining as you've described it, 'It's a grommet style set up which the actuator passes through into the cabin.' They think you mean one that comes with the servo itself therefore almost impossible to obtain so you must impr...

Re: Bumper colour.
Hello Allan
For such jobs I use a black heat-resistant paint (650°C).
After the paint has dried and hardened I polish the part with a plastic polish spray ("Arrmor All") which produces a “satin +” finish.

Re: Rear axle bearings
Hello Olly
Pleased you have found a part number from a reputable manufacturer. (I've noted the number)
Could you please let us know if it solves your problem?
I will then know should I need bearings in the future.
All the best.

Road reflections
Why is it that when you come up behind a slow moving car that's weaving the driver, with head turned, is talking to an empty passenger seat squab?

Why fit a modern diesel lump in a Capri?
At least, the original engines have genuine emissions.
