Re: track days
I did a rally course at Silverstone. Now that is fun! It was in Mk2 Escorts back when they were 2 a penny and you could thrash them all day.... So they still do this. I did it for my 30th a year or so ago with a few mates, it was epic! They still kinda 'don't care' to a point, obviously they wouldn...

Re: Checking axel fluid
11mm deffo rings a bell with me. I just filed down a section of 1/2" square bar to fit mine, then got a mate to weld it into a crappy socket. Not pretty, but does the job. If all else fails, file a bit off your 11mm?

Before you dive into getting a 2.0 mate, I suggest you do some homework. I only say this because I’d hate to see you rush into it and buy something unsuitable to your application. There’s a lot of info out there on the web. In a nutshell, the ‘205’ refers to a specific 2.0 block. It is generally reg...

Hey, You've gotta be careful running performance cams in a 1.6 head. The wildest most people will go is to put a standard 2.0 cam in a 1.6 (with good results) I ran an FR32 in a 1.6 head on a 2.0 bottom end for a time, and while it worked, I had issues with the geometrey of the valve train. I think ...

Re: Cambelt tensioner
Yea, first one I ever did had no spring. Probably stating the obvious but set your tension, turn the engine over a few times and recheck. When it''s cold I like to have a tiny bit of slack in it, when the engine's warm it'll tighten up a bit, at least mine does.

Re: RAF Marham Track Day
plans are afoot! Keeping your cards close to your chest Dave! I wonder what he's planning.. Okay, thanks for the tip, might have just been too heavy on them early on. But it had new discs, I bunged a new set of Mintex pads in, & bled it through with fresh fluid. They were still crap. & I st...

You mean you can go fast in comfort? & without the fear of impending doom?? Where's the fun in that?! ha ha.
Naah, it looks cool man, and like a car that'll just keep on truckin'.
Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on that one.. if you keep it longer than 2 months

In my defence, it was a long track!
Yea that'd be great. Were you there on the day?

What a day! You need to get another car Dave. Would definitely be up for doing another. Took me 3.5 hours to get there, & the same back. Only difference was I had brakes on the way there  What did you have brakes wise on Rat Dave? I put new discs and pads on mine before this and after one h...

As it happens, just edited a short vid of the Capri at RAF Marham track day! No external cameras were allowed sadly.

Re: 40s?
'sup Callum, You need to know really what the distributor has been customised for. There's many different combinations of max advance/rate of advance, all taylored to a specific engine setup. Camshaft mainly. So just buying it and fitting it may do you more harm than good. For less agressive cams li...

Re: Single carbs to twin
I'd fit twin carbs for the sound alone! Really! You won't get that bark any other way. Yea yea it might not make much of a performance difference on a standard motor. But so what. Get em set up right and they'll be every bit as good as a twin choke. Fuel consumption may be a tad worse.. but that dep...

I figured what better way to give myself a kick up the arse than to book the thing. So I'm in. On the Sunday. Plenty to do before then which is slightly worrying.. If your planning on taking a ride out dave lemmie know. Sure I could add you to my booking.

Re: Pinto rebuild. Any recommendations?
FR30 is a great cam, & will be nice with that set up :) I had a local engineering firm recondition my 2.0 a good few years back now - short block only, that from memory cost around £500 - £600. The head I tackled myself - fitted FR30 cam + gubbins, relapped the valves. Oh, they skimmed it, but t...
