Re: Laser + GL

I'd be interested to see what a difference the new carb and cam make. Bet they'll liven it up a bit.

Warm it up Paul, it'll knacker the bush and smell like hell but should do the trick.

Re: water pump replacement

So I finally got the fan and water pump off! the “paper” seal was just slime.. no wonder it was leaking lol. Also just out of curiosity does anyone know why the blades on the fan aren’t evenly spaced? I would have thought it would be same as a desk fan for example. A couple blades seem chunkier as ...

Re: electrics were to start

Both the horn and the washer pump can stick up with lack of use. With both, firstly check that power is getting to them and that they are wired correctly, ie +ve to +ve and neg to neg. If that's OK then get someone to hold the switch down and give each a tap with a hammer or socket ratchet handle - ...

Re: Pinto cambelt cover bolts

Hi all, Had an odd rattling from the engine the other day and found it was coming from the cam belt cover. On further investigation the bottom bolt had come off. Took the cover off (in my paranoia, lest it snag on something) for now. I don't suppose anyone could let me know what size/length the bot...

The only upgrade I may do is the headlight upgrade a la Nick and John. Will have to see how I get on with the standard ones first.

Re: Missfire. Possible vacuum caused.

It could be many things causing this problem. Are all your other vacuum hoses connected correctly and in good condition? You say the car is running rich which could just be a mixture problem or the float level in the float chamber. Also is the automatic choke turning off properly (flaps open when wa...

Re: Request for help

David So sorry to hear of your and especially your brother's situation. I expect everyone on here will feel the same. I truly wish I could help you but unfortunately none of my Capri's are roadworthy at the minute but there may be some kind people on the various forums who can. Wishing you and your ...

Re: strut top attachment

On my recent MOT one of the advisories was for the nearside strut top attachment having slight play and I also have a lot of steering wheel wobble at speeds over 40mph. I'm putting 2 and 2 together and assuming that the wobble is caused by the top attachment. Would I need a new strut or is the top ...

Re: Insrument panel bulb wattage

I guess the 3W are for the warning lights and the 2W for the background lighting Hi Paul, I believe that 3W are also suitable for the back illumination as I wouldn't have thought that they produce much more heat than 2W bulbs. As you probably already know, 5W bulbs in this application are a no-no a...

Re: Insrument panel bulb wattage

Don't muck about with the old inandeciant bulbs if you have them out , get some led bulbs , they fit straight into the holders are brighter , don't get hot and come in colours ( I got blue which works well as the original blue bulb covers had long ago crumbled in the heat of the old bulbs ) just se...

Insrument panel bulb wattage

Hi folks

Does anyone know the correct wattage for the capless instrument panel bulbs? 5 out of 8 of mine are blackened but as I'm so old I can't read the wattage on the bulbs even with a magnifying glass. I'd guess they're about 2W if other makes are anything to go by.

Cheers

Paul.

Re: water pump replacement

Like I've said in a previous post, I use a long thin chisel and put it on the right edge of one of the flats of the nut then give it a good twat with a large tapping stick. Works on most models, not just Capri's.

Re: Oil change

It is true that it does run out better if the engine's warm but if you are a novice only doing it using a washing up bowl to save pennies as the OP said he had to, then the bowl could catch on the exhaust and melt the side of it and it is more difficult to get to the drain plug with the bowl in the ...
