Anyone strengthened any part of the Capri 2.8i shell?
Hi. Has anyone strengthened the Capri 2.8i shell or added/welded any tweaks to improve the rigidity of it? Mainly thinking of around the suspension areas? Just firing for tips? I won't be jumping any buses in it just daily driving. The top part of the inner front wing is buckled and flexing where it...

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
Welllll it started life as a tiny bit of rust on the front bonnet - and i'm glad i went down the road i did. A body repairer mate of mine said that he wouldn't even entertain looking at it until it was bare metal (understandable being an old car). He said 80 it all over, 120 it and then 180 it - whi...

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
Nope - no sarcasm from here I can assure you - just frustration and anger. I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing myself talk about it, but I want to make sure that i pursue all avenues before giving up. Rallydesign, peterlloyd, burtonpower, motorsportworld, cci, balancemotorsport, bilstein and vario...

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
Thanks very much for the advice on that - really helpful. It's good to learn from others. So for the sake of a £2 rubber/cork/paper seal which has perished i have to throw the pair of 2.8i struts away. Surely not...surely... oh no....

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
So are the Escort billies are the same spec, length, etc? All i do i drill the hole out and re tap the bottom of the strut? Now that sounds like an option because i have asked... Burtonpower, Peterlloydracing, Gartrac, CCI and Motorsportworld. All of them now advise that Bilstein no longer make the ...

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
My Bilseins take about 8-10 seconds to rebound fully and one of them rebounds 3/4 of the way and i have to pull it that last 1/4. The legs are greased inside but as for inside the billie itself(if it is a billie - no markings on it whatsoever stating so) i dunno. The car needed a small patch of rust...

Re: Burts Capri 2.8i
Left it bare for about a year with a cover over it. 120'd and 180'd it then etch primed the body. Tried rally design - they only have Avo's Tried Burton Power - they advise that they can take my money at £130 each but haven't got an estimated delivery date as they are all on back order so don't know...

Re: Repairs to my 2.9i
The Beakster - the man is a metal legend. I've followed him on his white capri. Mainly my inspiration on my motor and the very reason why i am having a go myself. Someone told me though that you can't weld on the metal under the strut reinforcement plate until you secure the body to stop it flexing ...

Re: Repairs to my 2.9i
 God if my motor was half the motor yours is i'd be chuffed ! I am in the same position. Both wings removed, mine had a head on impact passenger side and pushed back the headlight bowl about half inch. The front area from under the grill to passenger headlight is a replacement and welded badl...

Re: how the ~#*%$ do you get the front wings off a mark 3
8-) Let me help you with that ! I've been trying to find a simple way to do this too and have come to a conclusion. And you need one, well no two very new and sharp spot weld drill bit removers. They are drill bits designed to remove spot welds without damaging the metal underneath (although it ofte...

Re: Restoration: The Big Fast Red One
Nice work. One question though. What do you cut the metal with? If i use a 115mm angle grinder i get huge cut marks past the point where i should cut? Ta - Burt

Re: hazard lights
My indicators were playing up and my hazards were playing up. I knew they all had new bulbs so i took the hazard switch out - lighty sanded the pins that go into it to clean them up - put the switch back together - and .....it was still f*cked - so i got another switch from CCI jumble and it worked ...

Re: High pressure fuel lines?
Hi. A fellow enthusiast recommended this forum to me as i too have an issue with the petrol tank and pipes. As i look at the back of the Capri 2.8is i see the fuel pump to the right of the tank in the housing, and on the left side of the tank is a small L-shaped pipe sticking up in the air. Very ver...
