Car covers @ £10

Aldi have the thin blue car covers in at a tenner. Large size fits fine on a Capri. Three tie-under straps on this batch with a clip on both ends rather than just one strap with clip at one end. They obviously won't last as long as the fifty quid+ jobs but even the Halfords items at £65 don't last l...

Re: New suspension bushes.

I've used polies for decades and they do have the advantage of not needing replacement every few years. They also firm up the steering giving a much more precise reaction to your input. Some grease on the moving faces will prevent squeaking, some suppliers include it in the package - mine have never...

I happened to catch a link to a naughty spoof video of Rainbow last week. The show was always good clean fun & in this video Zippy was in a jacuzzi but not being very - clean. Biggest giggle I've had for ages

Re: Steering 'tight'

U/J in the steering coupling is prime candidate. Was it a 2nd hand or new? Also it must be fitted with the flat correctly aligned (twist & depth)for the pinch-bolt. The top bearings are often a bit slappy, having some numpty grease-gorilla wedge an expanding ratchet clamp between it & the se...

Re: Bike carbs - fitted and first test run

Could always try the squirty test with WD40 or brake cleaner sprayed along the manifold edges to see if it lifts the revs.

Re: Bike carbs - fitted and first test run

Trial fitted the manifold to my spare head, and it's not flat How long have you been fitting these??? If that set-up hasn't been running on the car before then I would suspect head-manifold air leak. Two gaskets with plenty hylomar between each face & well tightened should work unless it is ben...

Re: 1.6 laser brake upgrade

If you get brake fade then you do need a service and/or upgrade. Can you lock the front brakes? If so then the brakes are working and you need better tyres. Brand new standard discs, pads, drums, shoes, fluid and braided hoses will make a startling difference over old worn bits. An anti-dive kit or ...

Re: Ballast Resistor

On later models the ballast resistor is built into the loom where it runs across the bulkhead. Thicker than the other wires.

Re: Inlet manifold

gaskets on top of gaskets aren’t a good idea Not usually but; I tried a full weekend to get mine to run right with every carb tweak available and got carbmonox poisoning into the bargain. The exhaust manifold just kept glowing on anything above tickover. Back on with the Weber and a trip up to Bogg...

MachineMart is my favoured supplier for the scissors type splitter. They only had one size last time I bought one.

Pull up to the wooden gate & if it's locked then nip in the pub for the lock code.
Pisserie is right-hand end of the pub as you go in.

Beware of the odd very sharp bend on the local road !

Re: Fuel gauge not working

The gauge should move up to read FULL if the two wires at the sender are connected together. If they are corroded and need cutting back then a couple of bullet female connectors will do the job.

Mine was due to the solenoid contacts being a bit burnt, this was due to arcing after I took it for a swim across an in-flood River Isla in Scotland many moons back. There was a tide-line along the inner wings level with top of starter motor - and halfway up the wire fence. All worked fine after a g...

Re: Under bonnet leading edge

Blown with rust! From above, that's where the water runs off the bonnet channels & into the gap between plastic trim & bonnet in rain or when its washed. Here it will find its way into any paint defect or tiny rust spot etc. accelerating corrosion more than at other points. The bonnet front ...

Re: Front suspension

It is likely that a previous owner has fitted uprated road springs. 195lbs is a fair guess by your description, maybe 175lbs. A new pair of standard springs should be reasonably priced at Raldes or Burtons or you could source a good second hand pair if desperate. You will need to take the complete s...
