Re: what is a 1600 pintos cylinder head bolt type

I think if you look through the oil filler with a torch you should be able to see one of the heads which will be either 6 or 12 points, (6 = Torx, 12 = earlier splined.) I *think* it`s 12mm but somebody will be able to tell you definitely.

Re: The "Paving Slabs" Story

due to some mysterious inversely proportionate equation F = ma There is a trade off between the extra side force when cornering which increases linearly and the extra friction due to downforce at the tyre which may not be linear?? Another factor is that the greater the mass the greater the difficul...

Re: Powdercoating in Reading

TBH, I`ve used Halfords satin black (on original finish) and the results are perfect, plus satin blends in very easily so you can re-do a section and when dry it`ll disappear. Can`t imagine powder coating being worth it for this application?

Shouldn`t have thought you`d really need vented discs on the back? Considering the work they do?

Re: tyre deterioration

They will eventually form flat spots where they`ve been standing, personally more than a month I`d put it on stands. If stood for years, you`ll need to get them checked - they could have started to degrade internally & be extremely dangerous; ideally don`t take a chance, get new. Tyre companies*...

Re: Wheels on Ebay

They`re listed as `new`, by that he means they`ve not been fitted since he had them painted.... Not my definition. I wonder if the people bidding think they`re new, a full set, or both?
Did you see the NOS parcel shelf last year that went for I think £830?

Re: TAILGATE DAMPERS - WHeres that thread?

I`d guess if they`re clean, original and they`re just starting to fail (work in summer but not winter) then odds are it`s just 30 years of seepage and they`re prob refillable? I mean if they`re still holding ANY gas from 30years ago they must be decent? Obviously the chromed piston rod will be cruci...

If he leaves the rest of the `cold start` assembly in place, it will still have the fast idle cam won`t it - which will help a little when cold?

Re: 2.8 speedo problems

The problem is, say speed limit is 30, you do 33/34 (as everyone does...)you`ll generally be safe, (prosecution guidance is speed limit + 3mph +10%, so 36 ) but given an UNDER reading speedo you`re actually doing 36/37 - just prosecutable. I believe the tolerance for speedos was always +10% -0% ie t...

Re: TAILGATE DAMPERS - WHeres that thread?

I`d guess mechanically damaged parts, or excessively worn seals etc. They don`t do any restoration/repair, just refill with gas. However, if re-gas is unsuccessful they will deduct price from new struts so there`s nothing to lose? (Only problem with brand new ones is they are not conductive so you`d...
