Re: my 3.0s MK3 1981

Hi Jack, Looks like your car has suffered the same fate as mine. You have a combination of corrosion and limescale in the coolant system where its been stood without the correct level of antifreeze. Whilst your waiting for housing it might be worth removing the rad and flushing it through with a gar...

Re: 2.8 bilstein strut top mount knocking

Hi, Did you have the noise before you fitted the new springs? You should be able to fit -1" springs without any problems. Where did you buy the springs from, were they a good fit in the spring cups? Did you torque everything up ok with the car sat back on its wheels? I've bought some -1 springs...

Re: MkII 1976 1.3L w/factory engine

Second thoughts that's probably no good if you're gear lever is broken at the bottom. Burton do a complete gear lever assembly http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-category/transmission-clutch-wheels/quickshift-gear-levers-kits/quaife-quickshift-gear-lever-4-speed-rocket-qs02.html . A bit pricey thou...

Re: MkII 1976 1.3L w/factory engine

The only problem mechanical wise so far is the gear shifter. It is marked with a green ring at the bottom, I do not know what that part is called in English, and it's broken from there. I have been told I have to get my hands on a full gear shifter, not just that "broken part"(If it helps...

Re: Hesitant plus backfire

Could it be carb icing? Not sure how your car works to prevent this but some older cars needed the air filter inlet moving towards the exhaust manifold in the winter to prevent this happening.
With the temperatures starting to dip now it could be the cause.

Good luck finding the problem

Re: Questions about electric aerials, blower motors etc

There should be a separate terminal on the back of the radio for the electric aerial it probably says aerial or antenna next to it, it doesn't use the coax connection. Neil, I am afraid I have to disagree with you. The terminal on the back of the radio will be the switched feed wire to the aerial. ...

Re: Overheating 2.8

I can get recored radiators. 2.8 i's are well known for silting up their radiators so it always amazes me that people don't start with the radiators first instead of going all round the houses trying to sort out overheating problems. Just bunging on an electric fan isn't the answer, if Ford had tho...

Re: Overheating 2.8

As previously mentioned check the water pump . Its not uncommon for a significant part of the impeller to corrode away leaving bugger all to pump the water around...... cost nothing to look :) oh and are you sure the electric fan is moving the air in the right direction , most leckie fans are desig...

The black box on the inner wing could be an old alarm system. Does it have a manufactures name on it?

Re: Overheating 2.8

Glad the signs are positive. Just remember that the rad could still be on it's way out, might be worth to get it checked by a professional for piece of mind. I had a hot running pinto, as soon as I changed the rad it was around about 1/4 on the gauge, down from near the red. I had a 2.8 in my grana...

The Valvemaster plus bottle says "Do not use in cars fitted with catalytic converters".
So I guess not.

Great car mate.......... Love the Black with silver S striping. Yeah the wheels are wrong but still a good looking car. Stick a Janspeed exhaust on it if you're going to keep the car long term, which I guess you will :) One other thing, check the age of the tyres. If its be stood up for a long time ...
