Re: A lesson on cam timing
Interesting. You may be disproving the theory! Although you only mentioned bhp curve. Did the adjustments make any difference to torque? That's a pretty decent figure for a fast road 2.0. Although I wouldn't get too hung up on peak bhp. Cam timing aside, rolling road must have spent some time settin...

Re: A lesson on cam timing
I better hope you don't recall correctly Dave! Gee wiz that's a hell of a figure. Agree with what Dave says, plus to add on top of that, it depends how you like the engine to be set up. If I remember right advancing the cam timing will give you more bottom end grunt, and retarding it will give you m...

Re: Tappy 2.8 since fitting Piper cam
The bp270 is pipers high torque cam right? I've not had any experience with 2.8, but in a pinto this type of cam tends to be high lift, short duration. This could be a factor. Other than what you've done already I can't think of anything elae.. did you break the cam in correctly? High rpm for first ...

Re: Tappity engine
Fantastic video about the valve clearances. A couple of additional points worth mentioning: 1) You can't adjust one of the cylinders' valve clearances when the engine's still in the car, because the carb is in the way. Either take the carb off first, or bend a couple of old spanners to make your ow...

Re: Twin 40's + MOT?
Yea :) You're in a similar predicament as I was. Swapped heads before mot and had the set of 45's sitting there on the shelf.. I was gonna put the 32/36 on just for mot but in the end thought sod it. My problem was I had to run in the bloody cam! Which meant 2500 rpm with 'guessed at best' carb sett...

Re: Twin 40's + MOT?
I think you'll be okay. Unless it's ridiculously over jetted. My 2.0 passed on 45's with a blf 40/41 cam, and that has something ridiculous like 320+ degrees of duration. At the station I advanced the ignition timing to about 20 degrees btdc, and set the idle pretty high about 1300. All tips from gu...

Re: Tappity engine
Hi Nick,
Just regular cheapo grease to be honest. Although this method may work purely due to the fact I’ve removed it so often! I think long term wise, gluing the gasket into the rocker cover with some silicone (oil resistant), and then using the above method, would be your best bet.

Re: Tappity engine
But, you didnt mention if you need to replace the rocker cover gasket, do i need to? I wont bother with the valve clearances as i have no clue what they are supposed to be, and i dont own a manual and cant afford one right now, but i will get a friend who is a mechanic to have a look for me instead...

Re: fitting capri fixing around work?
Around life in general I’d say, if you’ve got family commitments, and work a lot of hours, that basically boils down to a lot of all nighters in the garage! & then you’ve got the problem of trying to convince yourself you should be enjoying it because it’s your hobby. & laying on the freezin...

Re: Tappity engine
Just to jump the gun on Steve a little bit, but I’ll be interested to see what he has to say on the subject. I use the normal stuff, because I just can’t fathom how a thimble full of additive can increase a full tank of petrol by 2 RON, or whatever it claims. If you want a similar octane to 4 star, ...

Hi Jimmy, Those videos you posted are really helpful mate. Extremely informative. Nice one :applaud: All the best now Nick for the videos Jimmy. One thing missing from a lot of these classic car programmes is a how to spot, a mechanical section, etc. You could be that man! Thanks guys! ha ha, I'm n...

Re: Tappity engine
Yea I’d agree with the comments above. The only thing you can do relatively easily is check the spray bar is working as it should, and then check the valve clearances. Adjust if they need doing. Pintos are kinda known for being a bit rattly though! I did a few vids earlier this year, check em out if...

Re: USA MKI Capri- restotime
Yea not bad ta. Taking a break from performance mods this year to try focus on some cosmetic repair.. thankfully it doesn’t ‘look’ quite as bad as what you’re dealing with.. but until you get stuck in who knows right?! Yea, if I was there I can’t say I wouldn’t defect over to some big old yank tank ...

Re: USA MKI Capri- restotime
Craig, I’m just catching up with this thread! Great to see you back in Capri ownership. Epic first drive you did, nothing like a quick shakedown to see what it’s made of.. + an extra 2998 miles. Good luck with the project, interested to see where it takes you.. wherever that may be.. it’ll be high q...

Re: Switched 12v feed for electric fan
There's 2 male spade connections sticking out the top of the fuse box (end nearest the windscreen). One is switched live one is permanent live. I took mine from there. Can't remember which is which though, but easy to figure out with a multimeter.

time to get rid of my slots *SOLD*
Hey guys, I need garage space, and before I put these on the bay I thought I’d offer them up here first. ONE important thing to note is the rears no longer have tyres on them, other than that, what you see on the first 2 pics is all there (I'm not selling my car with them) 2 7x13 Cobra Drag Sl...
