As Peter says its the take off for the servo connection, the other elbow is the outlet for the heater as it looks like you have an early Zodiac oval port manifold with manual choke. This needs a plug if using auto choke, you then need a smaller 1/4 bsp elbow for the servo port, these can be got off ...

Hi Andy...The 275's on mine are 9" long which with the ride height in the pic the adjustable platforms are quite central on the strut tube allowing plenty of adjustment either way, Simon......
