Re: banging under car

Have to admit it doesn't sound (pardon the pun) good for the diff. Worth pulling the backplate off to see if the pin is still where it should be...

Re: banging under car

Is it wheel speed or faster?

Does feathering the throttle make any difference? What about in neutral?

Re: 3.0 Chassis numbers

Never seen a definitive status on the chassis number location - the earlier ones had them on the LH (looking from the front under the bonnet) inner wing but not sure when they changed over. Fairly sure that anything '81 on has the numbers in the floor by the drivers seat. Think the statement was abo...

Re: Repairing a rusty heat shield

Unless you can use stainless penny washers (Screwfix do a few options) then you're going to be into grafting pieces in. Does get hot - the gases are 600+deg C but you're probably at 250+ with the air gap etc...too hot for most fillers etc. Not anything like an expert on the Pinto's to be honest but ...

Re: Wiring oddities

There's always one eh! The word I was looking was actuallly infer rather than imply...my mistake! Point I was making is that it's not an ammeter in the "evevrything routed through the gauge" style (internal shunt) used on other vehicles....it's a distributed ammeter "system" whic...

Re: wheels that fit capri

Modern small FWD steels will hit the struts on the front. Ok for static fitment but no good if you want to pull the car in / out of the garage as they will machine a nice groove in your strut bodies.... They can be spaced with washers.

Re: Wiring oddities

Check the connections & wiring to the Alternator - the spades aren't great & may need pinching up a little to make a good connection. The gauge in the dash is an ammeter but works on a voltage drop across the harness to imply current so although it functions as an ammeter it is actually a vo...

Re: Cosworth 2.9l 24V fuel hose routing

Can't speak for the cosworth specifically but usually one end of the rail is fed from the pump (via a filter) & the reg is connected to the other end with the return taking the excess back to the tank (via the central connection). This way air is purged from the rail automatically. In many cases...

Re: banging under car

Had a diff go which had a rhythmical knock...turned out to be the planet gear shaft hitting the pinion as it had broken the roll pin & was eeking it's way out..... I'd also go with what has been disturbed - the prop is a possibility as it's probably been articulated beyond it's normal operating ...

Re: Wont start

Flooded as a result of repeated start attempts?

Either pull plugs out & have a look or pull
The air filter off, wedge the choke open & crank it with the throttle held wide open to dry everything out.

Re: Wont start

What is it? Pinto? V6?

Got a spark at the plugs or just coil?

Is there fuel in the carb (assuming it's not a 2.8i !)

Re: 24V V6 Conversion on a 2.8i

Thanks for the reply - from that I take it that the engine does foul the standard battery tray.... Hmmm, wonder if the engine could be shuffled on it's mountings to clear the body...almost move the engine towards the near side as lifting it on the offside would cause issues with clearance for the al...

Re: Stiff, squeak clutch

Check the cable externally for signs of heat damage as they run close to the exhaust & minor misrouting will cause melting & a much heavier clutch pedal. Cheaper (and much easier) to swap out the cable to see if it solves or at least helps the problem. There have been issues with cables cutt...

Re: Project: CCI Repro Dashboard

This seems like a lot of work!

Wonder what a trimmer would charge to redo the dash upper in vinyl or leather? That way you could repair the cracking & the evidence would be hidden by the covering.

Hats off for the work done so far though - more patience than me!

Re: What colour to paint the Capri?

Red for me all day long. All the 2.8s had colour coded mirrors, only the specials, 280s & Tickfords (not really part of the 'normal' population as they had the grille blanking panel thingy) had colour coded headlamp surrounds & grille. Oh and the Lasers obviously - probably for ease of manuf...
