Re: Where is everyone from?

Stew from brum area. Have an '86 2.8i special in white which I've owned since 97 & has been stored since 98... Recently rescued it, got it running again & put it into a safer storage location. Have collected most of the bits I need to get it sorted out. Have owned another 2.8i (82 x plate 4s...

Re: Sun roof mechanism

Know next to nowt about these but there is a lot of info on the forum if you have a search around. Doubt new parts will be available - if you need to access te mech then it will be roof lining down but you might be able to get away with only dropping the fron down...thi could still mean getting the ...

Re: 2.8 engine

I'd agree that the gunk is generally top end related but it does generally affect the centre of the vee which is why I suggested not to poke around. Synthetic oil is the real answer but it needs to be the correct viscosity, 0w30 or 0w40 does these engines no favours, something like castrol rs 10w60 ...

Re: fuel and air problem vacume problem ?

The air leak would need to be quite large to markedly affect the plate lifting - the moving bits of the system are generally the bits that go wrong first! Injectors are pretty reliable from experience, they can get blocked from debris getting in following service work etc but they are pretty good. M...

Re: 2.8i Light restoration

Looking very good - had a 4spd as my first car & adored it despite it being rotten as a pear! Something special about the 4spd 2.8is. Have driven lots of capris & they drive by far the best of the bunch. The earlier engines are livelier than the later 'grey' engines too. Yours looks remarkab...

Re: Accelerator Pump

The differing behaviour depending on how long the car has been sat is quite variable as it does depend on what condition the car was in when parked. The crank & falter could easily be over rich due to fuel in the manifold which gets picked up as the engine speed rises - this is a big problem wit...

Re: Accelerator Pump

Depends on the carb setup - not sure on what you have buy yes if you open the throttle whilst looking down the car you should see a squirt of fuel. With dual choke type carbs they don't always have a accel ump on the secondary choke. It's there to give a transient enrichment when you open the thrott...

Re: Rev Counter

The rev counter is connected in down by the coil so might be worth checking the connections there?

Might be worth checking the grounds for the cluster also - on the "A" post I think...

Re: fuel and air problem vacume problem ?

The plunger being "free" is quite subjective, this, the bearings on the flap arm & the fuel pressure a critical in getting the engine to run properly. The plunger should have pretty much no resistance without the pump running. Equally the arm should be almost "weightless" whe...

Re: poor starting/over fueling advice needed please.

When it "thuds" are you able to crank through it or do you have to let it stand? Wonder if it's hydraulicing on fuel which is sat in the manifold? This will quickly find it's way past the rigs & hence the problem will "go away" quite quickly.... Have you checked the oil level...

Worth a nose at the earths too.

Presumably the side lights in the headlamps are working along with the dip / main bulbs?

Re: 2.8 timing

Sticking a screwdriver down a plug hole only tells you that the piston is at the top of the bore, not if it's at TDC (Compression) or TDC (Overlap - Exhaust closing & inlet opening). The "proper" way is to take the rocker cover off & watch the valve movement as you approach TDC to ...

Still got a '79 400F...in the fastest red & white colour scheme!

They aren't quite what I remeber...obviously been spoilt by bigger stuff that will outrun an RD without changing into 3rd...

Can't beat the smell though!

Re: 2.8 engine

Pretty common on the cologne...they don't breathe brilliantly & were generally run on basic mineral oil which loves to carbonise.... Two options - unless you intend to rebuild the engine then leave well alone or rebuild & clean out properly. If you start poking around a good portion of the g...
