Re: Garage Stuff - Aldi

Shelf rack looks interesting, just what I need to stack a few 20 litre cubies of veg oil, I keep running out of space. Had to take 1,000 litres to the commercial collector t'other week - couldn't get in the front room.

Re: Intermittent misfire

Crap in the carb? Whip the top off taking care that the thin gasket doesn't tear. Mop it out with kitchen paper & clean out any sandy deposits in the bottom of the float bowl then take the jets out & inspect for build up of crud. Make a note of which jet goes where because they have differen...

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

Can you post up a photo of the carb spindle where the cable fixes. Boggs did mine (many moons back) & it got me to the next town before giving up. I fabbed a makeshift repair then made up a new system at home. Improved return spring from a Bedford CF van carb straightened & rewound in the re...

Postman's just been

Postie just delivered my new socks from New Zealand :-) "My first car was a Capri" he says. "1.6 and a 1.3, loved them to bits." First time with the covers off and someone's liking it already :D New head gasket & stem seals fitted, pulled the stat out too. Small split in the ...

Re: rear axle alignment

I would advise leaving the axle as it is or you risk the U-bolts shearing off when you try to loosen them. Bodywork must be supported on stands if you do it.

Re: low speed judder (2.8)

Check the carbon brush in the centre of the dizzy cap, it might have a broken spring or be stuck too far in. Is there a spring tab contact in the centre of the rotor arm that is flattened? Is the king-lead pushed fully home both ends - also each HT lead? When warmed up they will run on a smaller spa...

Stolen van. Emberton nr M.Keynes

Stolen thursday afternoon 4.30pm from Emberton, near Milton Keynes.
Silver builders van with Baseworks written on the side. The chap's Black Labrador is still in the back.
Please keep an eye out for the van or a stray dog if local to you.

Re: Out for a spin....ish !!!

Brrr - you're keen, wrong time of year for me for an MOT. Take it in for a test in late springtime (if they'll let you??) then you can fettle it in warm weather. That loo will come in useful eh. Being a time-served plumbob, mine also has suitable facilities. The cars haven't moved for a good while b...

Re: Worth complaining

My AA policy is through my business so it's tax-deductible but these days I figure my cash is best invested in my future rather than insuring for something that might not happen - I'll be a bit more keen for next year's renewal. I've never used any of the discounted offers, they just don't apply to ...

Re: Modernising the Ford Capri

I guessed from your OP that you are a newish driver & it's not surprising that you want a car that would suit the 'modern' driving style but as has been said, it's not really practical to go that far in your position. Perhaps someone with many years' car building/racing experience might have the...

Re: Easiest engine swap for a muppet with no experience

Some good advice there from experienced owners. If you're 17 and can heave an engine around a workshop then forget about needing power steering - you don't. A 2.0 will tune up to give plenty acceleration & top speed. A high torque/mild road cam along with better carbs or an injection system is g...
