Blew the doors off some Ferrari's @ Goodwood Track Day
<t>Hopefully showed some people that Capri's are still to be taken seriously & treated with respect yesterday at Goodwood. Friends boss who organised the track day said he was going to kick my ass in his Ferrari 355 Challenge, neglected to tell him Ive been racing the Capri for 10 years so he ha...

Re: Diving nose
<t>Diving nose under heavy braking is caused by the movement of the arms of the ARB in an arc, as the nose drops the wheels move backwards increasing the feeling of diving. Lowering the car or fitting an Anti dive kit allow the ARB to sit nearer the horizontal. Harder front springs to reduce weight ...
Re: lsd
<r>You could say a non-LSD axle is less dangerous in the wet because 1 wheel spins & the other does nothing, so you won't be actually moving to hit anything.<br/> An LSD will give you more traction, if you are still having problems perhaps you need 4wd <E>:)</E><br/> Locating the axle properly w...

Then a friend kept asking if I wanted to sell it, eventualy I did as I had 5 Capris at the time ( Can't have too much of a good thing :) .He kept it for a while then ...

Re: 2.8i/sierra-capri vented discs.whats the difference?
No...Sierra discs mount on front of hub using the wheel studs. All Capri discs mount on the back of the hub with bolt holes on a smaller diameter. It is possible if you have access to machining facilities to mount many different discs. Some companies sell conversion kits for Cosworth discs etc.

<t>2 types fitted to Mk1, most 4-pots used whats refered to as the Timken axle where the diff loaded from the front, this will not take the 2.8 diff.or much power.<br/> <br/> 2.0's & 3.0's used whats known as the Atlas axle this is what you need. To identify, the rear of the diff. housing has a ...

Also......
<t>To improve traction a few racing mods. can be used, make some spacers like lowering blocks (but not to thick for the reasons already mentioned) and put a 7 degree angle on them to lower the nose of the axle this will reduce axle tramp. Also replace Anti roll bar bushes for ones without voids in t...

about 6k
should be around 6000 but as its quite a crude method ie.spring it can vary quite a bit especially if not an original Bosch part. Perhaps get on an open road and wind it up gradually in say 3rd to see if its coming in too early.

Re: Rev limiter.......
Agree put a standard Rotor Arm in, a 2.8 I had happily went to 6500 with standard rotor arm. The only way it will go much past that is if you change down a gear by mistake and buzz the engine, but a rev. limiter won't stop it.

Re: Bigger Wheels
<t>You will probably be restricted to 7" wide as not many secondhand wheels have the correct inset. If made specially you can fit 9" under standard rear arches easily. Front you can squeeze 8" (but the lower the car is the less clearance you have when steering).<br/> Diameters won't make much differ...

Early type
<t>Yes mine is the early type 1993, had it for about 5 years (One of those long term projects). Already had the carbs. was going to use them on my race Essex V6 but decided to stay with the Weber 48 IDA. Also wanted to keep it simple no sensors or black boxes just good old fashioned carbs. & dis...

To fit 2.8 shoes.......
<t>You will need drums & deeper inset backplates from a 2.8 or 3.0. Diameter same as 2.0 (9") but shoes 1/4" wider, 2.0 Brake cylinders slightly smaller bore but not worth changing until new ones needed. Everything else same.<br/> 2.8 calipers just M16 ones with a spacer in, may be easier to fin...

Agree Carbs.
<t>could be the way to go, the standard intake plenum is a bit restrictive. I shall be running mine on a pair of Weber triple choke IDT's from a Porsche 911 (look the business), had to make my own inlet manifold though. With a large bore single exhaust system am hoping for about 230-240 bhp, althoug...

Re German build
Not sure what the windscreen sticker relates to, but all Capri's after Oct 76 were built in Cologne.
Definately looks to good to break, would be a shame.

290-300 bhp obviously its a no-compromise race engine & wouldn't be usable in a road car.

Go for the LSD
<t>An LSD will give you more traction in all conditions, and is also a lot more fun because when the back end steps out you can hold it on the accelerator as the power is put down through both back wheels. Without LSD its unbalanced as one wheel does nothing and the other spins away.<br/> Quaiffe LS...

Diesel Trannys
<t>As far as I know Diesel Essex,s were never in production. Early diesel Trannys the ones with the protruding grill used Perkins engines. To convert to diesel would probably need stronger conrods as well as above mentioned due to compression ratio of 20+-1.<br/> Essexs were used in some light aircr...

What about a 4-speed
<t>the 2.8 4-speed will bolt straight on bullit proof but heavy, thats the route Im taking as it will have 245/16 tyres on back anyway. Use a spigot bearing (1 595 874) from Ford, 21mm o/d , 1/2" i/d. If using the T5 the input shaft is probably metric so a different bearing required.<br/> Auto does n...
