24V V6 Conversion on a 2.8i

Hello all, obviously this is a well tried & tested conversion.......I've done a fair bit of reading about the topic so am fairly well genned up around the subject based upon what is documented (mainly wiring, gearbox, mounts etc) I do have some questions which people who have completed the conve...

Re: Wiring oddities

Think you're looking for a grey with a yellow tracer (maybe just plain grey) for the illumination. It comes from the sidelight circuit, through the rheostat & to the dash lamps, console clock & cigar lighter. The rheostats do get dodgy with age - it's a wiper which runs over a wire track so ...

Re: Wiring oddities

Flooded batteries (well any lead acid battery to be honest) don't like sitting at low states of charge - they sulfate (not a spelling mistake!). Relays can go wrong - they are an electro mechanical device which rely on current flow to 'clean' the contacts. If the contacts are manky then no cleaning ...

Re: Taillight screw colour

I've swapped to stainless in a few places but over painted with etch & satin black as the raw stainless can be a bit blingy.

It's amazing how the small details make all the difference to the overall look.

Re: 2.8 fuel acumalter

Just for morbid interest what is prompting people to change their accumulators? Is it a cosmetic or functional issue?

Cheers Stew.

Re: Wiring oddities

Check the fuses on the underside of the headlamp relay as they are exposed & go manky over time. As Andy says you'd be better off running a dedicated wire as you run the risk of overloading one side (probably unlikely but not worth the risk). In terms of voltage then a fully charged 12v battery ...

Re: Wiring oddities

The green relay is just the 'impulse module' which is a fancy name for a flasher relay (without the blown bulb detection). It's energised during cranking & should audibly 'tick tock'. You could test it by disconnecting the cold start injector (you don't want to flood your engine with fuel), disc...

Re: Wiring oddities

It's worth stripping the dash trim out to see what has been done with the old alarm fitment & subsequent removal as that could be part of your issues...factory vs cobbled in wiring is usually easy to spot! Dash lights are fed through the rheostat - worth looking there as it may have been overloa...

Re: 2.8 fuel metering head overhaul

Don't underestimate what a PITA doing these can be....there is no gasket as such - it all relies on perfect metal to metal seals which are very tricky to replicate. There are rebuild kits which include the new bits such as the stainless 'gasket / diaphragm' which is sandwiched between the upper &...

Wanted - 2.8i owners handbook supplement

Hi - I'm after a handbook & supplement for a 2.8i. Mine is a '86 2.8i Special so not sure if
It should be a 280 / 2.8 supplement or just the plain 2.8i one.

Has anybody got anything out there? I have the manuals for an '81/'82 4 speed 2.8i if anyone wants to trade!

Cheers Stew.

Re: elec..ignition

If you could find a Sierra with a pinto which was non efi in a scrap yard (no easy task !) then you could use the whole setup (dizzy, amplifier, coil etc) on yours. Finding one is going to be the tricky bit these days as most have long gone....

Tough to beat oem stuff tho!

Re: Rear axle/differential running temperatures

Have no direct experience of this to be honest but I can't remember seeing that many old school fords with rear axle cooler setups? Guess it's down to the type of use the car is going to get put to & how much work the axle is going to be doing as a result. I'd imagine that lsds will add to the t...

Re: capri 2.8i problem

Not sure the proper stat is still available from ford - burtons have them tho (that's burton power rather than the clothing shop.....). They are 82 deg & have a visibly larger valve plate when compared to the pattern types. They also have the stopper valve which closes the bypass off when the st...

Ghia Seats

Hi all, am after a pair of Ghia seats, the intention is to recover them so I'm not too worried about the state of the covers but ideally the foams need to be reasonable / repairable. Let me know what you have lurking in your garage! Will happily collect & pay cash. Pm of email sbramham1@hotmail....

Towbar & Odds + Ends

Hi, have a towbar which I've removed from my 2.8i - it's complete except the fixings as I had to cut them to get it off. £15 Fan shroud thingy for a 2.8i - bought as a replacement then I found my original.... £15 Various bumper endcaps / grilles / headlamp inspection covers / overriders etc - £20 th...

Wanted - Mk3 Speaker Grilles

Hi, I'm after a pair of standard front door speaker fittings (backplates + grilles) for a Mk3.

Not too worried about the actual speakers as I can by some aftermarket custom fits.

Thanks,

Re: Update on 2.8 turn over issues.

Is the fuel pump actually running? Can you hear it when cranking? Should be getting plenty of juice if the system is working properly - after you've cranked the car is there any residual pressure in the system - if you cracj the union on the injector off you should get a spray as the system depressu...
