Re: coil question
If you're still using the standard supply to the coil (complete with the high resistance portion in the harness) then you'd still benefit from having the coil designed for a ballast system? I've not looked into the setup mentioned - if it's a complete replacement then I can see why you'd go for a no...

Kinda always guessed that was the case but good to see it confirmed.

Re: Starting issues
Burton Power do the valves - just search '1 way valve' on their website. There's a pic of the main pressure plunger & associated bits here : http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=225119 There's an o ring on the plunger & the body of the threaded capnut, damage to either can result...

Re: Starting issues
The binging noise is the accumulator doing it's job so the fault most likely is elsewhere. There is (or should be) a 1 way valve on the output of the fuel pump, it's contained within the fitting screwed into the pump (which the cap nut screws onto). This should stop fuel going back through the pump....

Re: Starting issues
Faulty PCV could also add to breathing issues. Is it just cold or hot start too? There are other issues which can give similar symptoms to a goosed accumulator. The pump has a 1 way valve as does the main pressure control valve in the metering head. If any of these fail to close down properly then s...

Re: DOT 4 Brake Fluid
Just avoid silicone fluid as it turns into a gooey mess when mixed with mineral fluid. If you've got a trade card Halfords are good for this sort of stuff but pricey without the discount. Have you considered swapping the flexi hoses while you're there? They generally get overlooked & swapping th...

I've kept bulbs in the clock hence sticking with the rheostat, plus couldn't be bothered with finding a pot that would fit...I do agree that it wouldn't be difficult with a concerted effort! Be interesting to see how well the LEDs dim using a lower voltage...heavens knows how consistent they are. St...

Re: Starting issues
As has been suggested cold start. If the thermotime switch is working properly it should inject continuously during cranking when cold. Once warm (thermotime switch open) then the injector is cyclically grounded via the impulse module (basically a flasher relay). The cold start injector side of thin...

Re: Poly bush, ya or na?
Don't degrade like rubber & less affected by minor fluid leaks etc. Given the choice & the relative low cost of poly I'd go for them. Some complain that poly makes the suspension harsh but I've not really noticed a negative impact. Ps - I'd swap the tca bushes for poly too as the rubber ones...

Re: banging under car
Did you have it on axle stands or with the axle 'hanging' off the springs? Just thinking that the prop will be running outside of it's 'normal' alignment if it's not supported on axle stands on the axle itself (if that makes sense) & may not give you a representative result. If you've not done t...

Re: Wiring oddities
Yes on all counts! The w terminal basically gives you a path to ground proportional to engine speed - presumably the switching is quite enough to make the bulb light up nicely! Just bang a spade on the harness end, connect to the L terminal & all should be good with the world! I've used little p...

Re: banging under car
Prop or box. I remember a mate putting a type 9 into a 3 litre which knocked it's coblers off...he wasn't happy as he had to put the (all iron) 4 speed back in. It did that on axle stands though - ironically the box had come from another 3.0 which had blown it's axle...which we reckoned was caused b...

Always thought it was only the v6's that had bigger rear brakes...always thought the 4 pots used the same setup. Does the diff on the scrapper still have the little alloy tag on one of the rear cover bolts (they do corrode & fall off eventually). If it's there it will tell you the ratio. 3.09:1 ...

Ps - never used the W terminal before but a quick look on google confirms that it's a pulsed output used to drive tachos (rev counters) on diesel engined vehicles!

Re: Wiring oddities
The stud marked W in the pic isn't the charge warning light terminal. The L terminal is the smaller spade terminal grouped with the two 3/8" large spades which are the B+ terminal. As was mentioned in the thread the other small spade is most likely intended for a supression capacitor which is o...

Re: White smoke on startup.
What he said! Minor head gasket leaks can continue like this for quite a while - keep an eye on coolant level to confirm. You can get kits to test if there are any products of combustion in the cooling system to confirm if you actually have a problem or not. Guess a decent garage could do it for you...

Don't know about the 'S' specifically but on my 2.8i I measured 50mm to the underside of the 'Capri' text & 30mm from the lhs of the tailgate edge to the edge of the C of Capri. The badge runs parallel with the lower edge of the tailgate. I know what you mean ref positions of badges / decals - p...

Re: Whats the solution to damaged or missing rubber trim
Prep & the right paint is key. Cleaning the buggers can be an issue as most products used on the trims are silicone based which is exactly what you don't want if paint has any hope of sticking! Keeping the paint to the minimum build up helps too as the expansion & contraction during thermal ...
