Re: Grockles......

Haha grockles. I swear only people from Devon and some parts of Cornwall use that word. My workplace is on the A39 (a main route to Cornwall) and we get any amount of 'grockles' coming in asking for directions to the campsite that they passed 2 minutes back down the road ha I think tourists are cal...

Re: You know "women's things" right?

Two little boys go into the grocery store. One is nine years old and the other one is five years old. The nine year old grabs a box of tampons from the shelf and carries it to the register for checkout. The cashier asks, "Oh, these must be for your mom, huh?" The nine-year-old replies &quo...

Re: reliable breaker

I bought a Continental brand water pump off ebay. Seems fine. There are a selection of viscous fans and couplings on there and i'm sure with looking most of the rest would be available. Sunroof handles are expensive and getting hard to get so may pay not to be too picky about the colour of it unless...

Re: Lights and Washer Motor

They all sound like usual issues for a car that hasn't been used for a while. The indicator problem, if they all worked OK last year, could be an issue with the hazard light switch; working it on and off a few times and making sure it's off may work. The washers could be got working by removing the ...

Re: Old owners

That's a central London registration number. You can apply to the DVLA for a list of previous owners for a small fee. I think the form you need to fill in is V888.

Re: Stupid auction..

I think the seller may just be a tad optomistic. I would have thought for £10K he could have cleaned the Popular Plus seats that it's fitted with. If it was a mint 45000 mile XR2 it would probably be worth going up for what the seller's asking and MK2's in general are creaping up a bit in value, at ...

Re: Carburettor

Ok no probs just bought a kit for 20 of eBay. . Probably best policy anyway if the car has been laid up for a long time. Have you got a manual to guide you? Be careful removing the horseshoe clip from the choke pull down lever as it's easy to lose them! Also clean the outside of the carb bef...

Re: Any experts on cologne engine rebuilds

I was not considering rings as compressions are good, all round 145 psi. as it has only started smoking this bad after refitting heads and the fact both sides are smoking a lot the only thing I can think of as common to both sides and would allow a lot of oil leakage is the intake manifold Re - rea...

Re: Hey gang! Just in case you lock yourself out the house...

I like the "climb through a window" bit. I can just see me trying to get through a fanlight and getting my 20 stone bulk stuck. Then what? Can I claim that on the policy? Probably be stuck then a bloody copper would come by (be the first one in years!) and nick me for breaking and entering...

Re: viewing mk3 ghia

he said there is a little rust in the sunroof area is this very bad If it's cruddy on the actual sunroof then that can be replaced, but if it's on the actual roof you could end up needing the roof reskinned in a few years. I've got to change the roof skin on my 3.0S and I'm not putting another sunr...

Re: Any experts on cologne engine rebuilds

Paul I was reading previous posts about leaking inlet manifolds after heads have been skimmed, as smoke is coming out of both banks do you think it may be the inlet manifold not seating properly. I was thinking of dry fitting and check with a feeler gauge or engineering blue to make sure it is seat...

Re: Carburettor

Hi again Could be a few things causing this. 1. Is the new fuel pump you fitted of the correct rating for the car. Carb engined cars only need a pump of about 3 - 5 psi max. 2. Most likely culprits for carb overflowing are a) Top gasket on carb knackered. b) carb needle valve not seating or stuck op...

Re: Any experts on cologne engine rebuilds

Hi, I'm no expert at all but just had a thought regarding pcv valves / exhaust gas recirculation? I was watching a YouTube video regarding my golf and the mechanic rebuilding his engine says that many good cars have disregarded because of bad smoking when all it was, was the gauze inside the rocker...

Re: Any experts on cologne engine rebuilds

From your description I hate to say it but it sounds like the oil control rings are gummed up or worn. Valve guide seals wouldn't use 1 1/2 pints of oil in 130 miles and they don't usually smoke on accelleration. A few years ago we had a customer with a horrendously smokey zetec engined Focus. When ...

Rust is the biggest issue with Capris, check inner wings both from under the bonnet and under the wings. The bowls behind the headlights also rust out. Check the area behind the front wheels where the bulkhead meets the floor, both sides and the bottom of the A post, sills inner and outer (along the...

Re: Flooded Carb

Dreammachine - you should really start a new thread for your own issue, this is the second one you've hijacked mate. No offence meant. Fuel coming out of the top of the carb points to the float level being too high. This could be the float is wrongly set or punctured or that the needle valve has stu...

Re: Starting issue

I filled the float chamber...yeah the pipes are the right way...will it make a difference if the car is on a steep slope facing up That won't help but you should be ok if you've got 2 or 3 gallons in it. If you've got access to a compressor I'd blow through the pipe but disconnect it from the fuel ...
