Re: Dixie air horn wiring ( realy)

The 3litre I just got has air horns on it but only requires one positive feed to work - I wired it straight to the original horn wiring positive but added an in-line fuse as well - not sure if that would be an (easier) option for you? Thanks but I have already fixed a new switch to the dash so will...

Re: Dixie air horn wiring ( realy)

Yes, you will need a live to the switch and also another live to the relay. See here: https://i.postimg.cc/RVy49L2N/Horn-wiring.png Make sure that the lives from the battery are fused at an appropriate rating. :goodluck: Andrew. Thanks for that Andrew I am starting to understand how it workes now I...

Re: Dixie air horn wiring ( relay)

Has anyone ever fitted air horns to there capries? I am stuggling to wire up the relay . Does the relay need 2 live feeds ? I have taken a wire from the battery to a switch on the dashboard then taken the wire from the switch to the relay. The problem I am having is there are four pins on the realy...

Re: Brake caliper restore

Hi folks thought I would give you all an update on my steering problem , fitted new track rod ends also had my steering rack reconditioned so I no longer have the steering wobble on right hand bends . Now I get the feeling that the struts can do with new springs and inserts as there is a clunking wh...

Re: Steering 'tight'

Not sure if its got anything to do with your lroblem but I noticed when I had my steeri g wheel off there is a little hole st the back of the steering wheel that needs to be lined up with the part that works the indicator return . I guess if you put the wheel back on without the part going in the ho...

Re: Blue plastic lenses in dashboard pod removal

Hi Andrew I found the dash lights were a fair bit brighter driving home from work tonight so far so good . I just hope they stay that way you could be right though they might get to hot since they are 5w . I did notice that the bulbs that came out of the dash were black in fact they looked like they...

Re: Blue plastic lenses in dashboard pod removal

Thanks for the advice guys, I managed to get the new bulbs fitted today I also had a look inside the cluster but didnt fancy taking the gauges out as they look so fragile felt I might damage them . The blue plastic bits looked ok but the lights are just a little bit better with the new bulbs (5w) so...

Blue plastic lenses in dashboard pod removal

Hi Folks I had the dashboard out of the capri yesterday looking to see why the dash lights are so poor. I found that some of the bulbs were black so I am guessing they have blown so I am away to halfords for new 501 capless bulbs . I have seen posts on here about removing these blue plastic covers m...

Spring turning with steering wheel !!

Hi folks just fitted new steering rack to try and stop the steering from being so heavy but I have now noticed the when I turn the steering both the springs and the bolt that goes through the strut mount are turning. Thinking that taking the bolt off from the strut mount then spraying some wd 40 int...

Re: Electrical gremlins

I would also check the battery to make sure its holding the current I has loads of problems with mine a few years back and slow wipers was one of the problems . After I went to halfords and bought a new battery the problems were cured . Thought it was a bit strange that the old battery would start t...

Re: Ignition switch failed?

There is not a toggle swich hidden anywhere ? Sounds daft but I found one hidden in my laser someone must have been using it as an antitheft device in the past. When the swich is on everything is fine but the swich is faulty so sometimes I was having exactly the same problem as you I could not get a...

Re: Found a scary problem with my steering rack !!

Do you mean where the ball joint attaches to the steering arm on the strut? As far as I know, the original ball joint used a castellated nut, like the anti-roll bar, which is prevented from undoing using a split pin. On the replacement ones that I got they used nylock nuts instead. Both require you...

Re: Found a scary problem with my steering rack !!

The problem was the ball joint that screws onto the rack on the left hand side . The nut had come slack but the part that holds the ball joint in place had also managed to unscrew itself a fair bit , infact the ball joint was only held on by about 3 threads. I was lucky I noticed the car moving abou...

Re: Found a scary problem with my steering rack !!

Thanks for all that info Paul but I have orderd a reconditioned steering rack from Burtons so wont have to do the repair . I now understand how the nut had come slack thanks to you I thought there must be a way to keep that nut tight as its part of the steering . Thanks again Alex .

Found a scary problem with my steering rack !!

I was having problems with my capri steering the car seemed to be wandering all over the road but was worse when I used the brakes . I thought my steering rack was worn as I tried turning the steering coupling by hand and I could feel lots of play on the steering rack so I orderd a new rack . I was ...

Re: Brake caliper restore

Hi folks managed to get brake calipers fitted with new stainless steel pistons and seals , but I am still having the same problems as before . The steering wheel shakes when turning round a right hand corner at speed so I guess the siezed brake piston was not the problem. What else would I replace n...

Re: Brake caliper restore

You can get all you need at Bigg Red caliper reconditioners. I bought a piston and seal kit for my laser and they seem fine. They also reconditioned the rear calipers on my Skoda VRs and did a good job. http://biggred.co.uk/ Thanks for the info but I have orderd some off e bay but since then I had ...
