Stupid points. Stupid condenser.
Is this what I need to throw them in the bin?

10-4 number one
..I'll try some new parts. I did notice that the new set of points now seems to have become slightly pitted also (knackered condenser?), so yeah, I'll try that.

I was very careful
not to turn the dizzy as I didn't want to mess up the timing.. stuck her in 5th and rocked her to set the points I'm going to try a new condenser today and a new dizzy cap as the old one can shift (very) slightly in its mountings.... thanks for the advice, btw

Would over fueling cause this?
Like if the choke was not turning itself off fully or something was sticking open? Everything on the carb seems to move freely, but my knowledge of carburettors......well, I have no knowledge of carburettors.
Sound logical? Or just a stab in the dark from a desperate man?

Yes and no..
The linkages have not been agitated enough to dislodge anything.. choke flaps move freely, but stick very slightly... no more than one would expect.

Last week a man looked at mine for ages..
..whilst I spied from me bedroom window. He takes in the matt black paint, the leopardy interior, greasy wheels, dents and damage and rust.. then says to his wife.........
"Bloody fantastic," with a big smile on his face
If only it still worked now

Tomorrow..
..I'll take the rocker cover off and measure valve clearances. And that will also give me enough clearance to get the auto choke out for a good clean.

Did that just sort of happen one day?
..like this has?
I wonder if the carb cleaner, mixed with the lead replacement additive, could have burned something out.
I need to learn that cars built before bloody carb cleaner was even on the shelf should not be subjected to it.

But the mystery is..
<t>...that I drove it onto the driveway running (camparitively) sweetly, changed points and condenser and sprayed carb cleaner(destroyer) into the carb... and now she hardly runs at all whilst warm.<br/> <br/> So I don't see how it can be anything as serious as something being physically damaged... ...

What are your gains??
although what I really mean is: did you get to smash your c*ntact breaker points with a hammer after you'd fitted it? Coz if so, I'm getting one.

Weirdness abound..
<r>..I no longer think my points are at fault, I think it's something more simple and more stupid (of me).<br/> <br/> I'll start from the beginning. Firstly, I replaced my c*ntact breaker points and condenser. I thought I couldn't gap them properly, but I've just tried starting her; first time since...

Aye, new condenser at the same time as the points.
Single leaf of card from the top of a fag-packet thickness gap, eh? Heh heh heh.. I'm going to try that.. save oil getting on the points.
