Re: Exhausts: Ashley or Sportex

People talk all sorts of nonsense about back pressure. Backpressure's irrelevant, unless you want to use something like a drinking straw as an exhaust! In a car exhaust, it's harmonics that are the important thing. Basically you don't really want exhaust pulses to collide too much (as happens in a b...

Re: Stoke on Trent members

Bandit, has your wiring loom or dashboard been butchered? I fitted a "new" original Ford stereo FM radio/cassette to my Capri on boxing day last year (thanks for the present Mum n Dad), although it was an SR32P not the futuristic Clarion one with the digital display a-la-2.8i. ...But as fa...

Re: what ever happend to this capri ?

That looks a really lovely car, I really hope they haven't modified it. I've nothing against modded cars but when something's so tidy and original it seems destructive to modify it. Save that for cars that already don't have an original stereo, have torn seats, need bodywork or new heads etc...

Re: Frost!

I'm intrigued about electric front windscreens... I'd heard that someone was making modern-ford-style quickclear electric front windscreens, but never really found out who it was or if they still do them. In theory it's a great idea because it allows you to clear the screen even if your heater blowe...

Re: Coolant Change & Radiator Flush

There is also a drain plug for the block... if you can get it off, another litre or so will gush out. On the Pinto it looks like a large bolt sticking out of the drivers' side of the engine. Not sure about V6 or Kent engines though. If it doesn't come off easily, then just leave it, as they rust int...

Re: Performance cam!

The FR34 is a performance option specifically designed for injected Pintos. It has a higher lift but shorter duration than the FR32 most people use in carb pintos. I think this is because increasing the duration and overlap confuses the EFI system, so to get more gases in/out you have to rely on lif...

Re: Original colour?

Yes, twin-tone, especially blue over silver, is surprisingly common for surviving 2.8s, probably because it looks so good. I always heard from people that the most popular colour combination was Caspian Blue over Stratos Silver, but when I was Capri shopping a few years ago I saw a handful of 2.8s, ...

Re: Please remember this rant in 5 years......

Martin is my first port of call for anything that our local motorfactors doesn't have in stock. I've had some real rarities - better than rockinghorse-poo and hens' teeth combined - from him in the past. He's never charged me more for anything than the equivalent part would be for a modern Ford that...

Re: help to identify pinto ford cam

I seem to vaguely remember hearing that the Pinto engine in Ford Transits had a much lower profile than in the car engines, for plenty of low-end grunt... so if you've got a 2.0 cam, make sure it's a car not a van one. Or alternatively, if you need a replacement and want it standard or semi-standard...

Re: Lowering the mk 3.

CCI do new front springs that will lower the front by either 1" or 2". They also do a rear lowering kit to reduce by the same amount. If you're messing with suspension you could get single leaf springs for the back, so you can put on the club handling kit. Personally I wouldn't bother thou...

Re: Alternator - Repair or Replace??

Just out of interest... if the alternator was periodically frying your electrical system, would it show up on the ammeter on the dashboard? What is it reading when your lights are dimmer or brighter than usual? Also - a multimeter on your battery terminals doesn't just tell you about your battery. I...

Re: rear wiper and heater/blower

I can't remember reading anything like that, but to be honest I've paid a lot less attention to these cars' electrical systems than I perhaps should have done. If anything I'd have thought the rear wiper and rear window demister would be related, rather than the rear wiper and the blower motor... bu...

Re: What kind of mpg should i expect from my pinto?

Your K&N might give you a tiny bit better fuel economy unless its induction roar makes you want to "boot it" more. Electronic ignition is a good move. 10W/40 oil, new plugs (resistorless if you can get them) and sports (or at least new) HT leads might give you a bit. Also make sure the...

Re: Capri Prices

Actually, having a closer read of the article, the description implies it's a Perana reproduction made from a 1972 donor car, which has got just enough original bits to keep its K registration. Wow that is through the roof!

Re: Capri Prices

It's a Perana. They're very scarce and very special, so that might be something to do with the steep price. Do a bit of a search on them. If I remember rightly it was some absolutely mental tuning bloke in South Africa "back in the day". You won't get anyone asking that price for a 1.6GL f...

Re: High oil pressure

Drain out all the oil. Refill with an exact measured amount. If you didn't change the oil filter, put in exactly 3 litres. If you changed the oil filter (recommended, they're only a couple of quid), measure out exactly 3.75 litres. Put in 10w/40, it's cheap and it's what Ford originally specified. W...

Re: new capri owner needs help

Some pinto engines are really resistant to vsr and some behave like any other car that was originally designed to run on 4*... Get your valve clearances sorted properly, but just adjust them to be the tiniest fraction looser than Ford originally specified, so that your engine isn't completely quiet,...

Re: Rubber seals required..help!

+1 for East Kent trims, they're fantastic! Their door seals even have the 90-degree bend pre-formed for the top corner, which is really handy because it makes them just a simple push-fit job with no mitering. I got my boot and sunroof seals from CCI and they were quite good, although the sunroof sea...
