Motorbike mechanics in Reading
Hi all, not a capri but still petrol powered. I need to find somewhere that can get my bike up and running again, been off the road since 2008 and not started since 2010. I need someone who can get it running and make sure that it is all working correctly, had problems with the charging circuit when...
Re: Axles
Thanks.
He knows how to rebuild them well enough and has all the tools, including the ones he has made for it, but just thought they were not as common as they are.
Will see how it gets on with the body work but trying to find anyone around here to do them is a bit of a pain tbh.

Re: Gearbox Rebuild prices
Thanks. I tried stripping one apart a while ago but I just couldn't get my head around it at the time. Now I don't really have time to try on my own as have a very long list of jobs that need to be done, car and other, on my days off. I would like the piece of mind of having it all sorted and just d...
Axles
Hi all. I am right in thinking that the axles in the capri are Atlas axles. Was asking a guy to rebuild mine and he was convinced all capris were Engilsh. I know that is not true and when I told him it was not an English but an Atlas he tried to tell me it was a tanus axle. He showed me an atlas on ...

Gearbox Rebuild prices
Hi all. Just wondering what sort of price it would be to rebuild a type 9 gearbox with new syncros and bearings? Looking to get the one in my 2.0 done as it is on the back of an uprated engine and has had the last two go now. Both were old boxes and had done a decent mileage with some issues before ...

Re: 2.0's 2014
Cheers. I agree, the fishnets are the best. I find them more comfortable than the laser or the ghia seats. He will be getting the TLC he deserves as and when time and funds allow. Always going to be a rolling resto atm. I plan to do a full restoration on him in a few years time but for now just need...

Re: 2.0's 2014
Thanks. The body needs a little attention but should look pretty much the same and definitely worth it. Going to be busy with them both but glad I only have to foot the bill for my 2.0. If it was for both then one would probably have been forsale. will post pics up later and will keep the progress c...

Re: Project: Zinc Electro Plating
Nice little write up and a very interesting read.
Think it will be time to clear some space to make a plating area.
Might be sending you a PM on chemicals soon.

Re: 2.0's 2014
Well, It is time to revive this beasty from his long sleep. Can't believe the car has not been on the road in 2 years now. Where has the time gone. Having been doing the strip on the mothers car, And as I now have a full time job, I thought the best thing to do was to get my capri back on the road f...

Re: Valvoline VR1 20w50 Mineral , good for road use?
Any time I do the oil I do the filter as well. My local motor factors sells oil filters for under £5 and all their products have to meet or exceed OE specs. I would always change the oil at least once a year, even if I only did under 1000 miles, will stop the oil from going blocking the oil ways wit...

HID headlights and the LAW/MOT
Hi all. I have HID's fitted to my 2.0 and last time it went through the MOT the tester said they might not pass again due to no headlight washers. I'm curious on this as when I read the rules I saw it as must work if fitted but nothing to say the car would fail if they were absent? I have never once...

Re: Nice Ride height
My 2.0 has an inch drop on the front and the rear springs are a bit worn, single leafs, so it sits nice and level.
Personally think it looks great like that and wouldn't dream of taking it lower.
As said it is all personal to you and how you want your car to look, make it your own.

Re: Which tyre supplier...
I have these on both capri's and I love them. http://www.federaltire.com/en/products_detail.php?products_detail_sn=8 Can't get the list of distributors to work but I know that Britannia Tyre in Coventry could get them in as they ordered and then fitted the full set onto the 3.0 Ghia wheels for about...

Re: Valvoline VR1 20w50 Mineral , good for road use?
I use the Morris classic 20W50 in the 3.0, also in my 2.8 granada. Doesn't burn it at all and it is quiet and smooth with great oil pressure. Only loss was due to old, crumbling gaskets as the engine is pretty wet when pulled. If you change the oil regularly, at least once a year, then sludge should...

Re: 3.0 strip down
The engine is going to get a steel timing gear as I have heard the fibre ones are more likely to fail on a tuned engine. I don't really fancy sending a rod through the block or smashing the heads to pieces. Not too worried about a little extra noise as hopefully the exhaust will tastefully cover it ...

Re: 3.0 strip down
Well the engine is now on its new home now, the engine stand, and has been drained of all its fluids. I span it over and got the sump off, Unfortunately it had bits in the sump. I think they were old bits of gasket, a few metal shavings and some plastic. Also when I spin the engine over by hand it s...

Re: The Law on rear seatbelts
If fitted they must be used. I had a prang in a 1985 capri without the seatbelts, from factory, and the police double checked the car to see if it was legal for me to have the un restrained rear passengers as the belts were not there. I think if the police pulled you and you had the belts and weren'...

Re: Which tyre supplier...
I bought my last lot for the BMW from Camskill.co.uk. Good prices and will deliver them to your front door. The last tyres I fitted to the 3.0 were 205/60/13 Federal Directional tyres. I like them, the don't break the bank and are fairly grippy. The last tyres on the 2.0 were 185/70/13 Falkens on th...

Re: 3.0 strip down
Not heard about the fuel consumption while using them. Might do some back to back tests when the car is done as have a couple that need re-jetting in the garage, bought them on a custom twin essex manifold that came off a TVR. I was going to run them on the capri but the setup sits too high for the ...

Re: 3.0 strip down
Agree with that. No other work will be happening to the car until the shell is a little more advanced. Also got a Weber 40DFI carb in the garage which might get a refurb and a run on the car. Might be worth a few extra ponies too. Had a local guy stick one on his 3.0's and when tuned with no other m...
