My sender gives very little movement in the 3/4 to 4/4 area, then moves much faster between 1/4 and 3/4. I'm paranoid though - the tank is normally full and in any case almost never goes under half a tank!

The first one is definitely too small. SGS sell the second one as part of a painting kit so it should be ok although I suspect it will be near its limit reading the specs. Pretty much - an increase by the number e is a doubling, so 2.71 (etc).

Do these radios have an onboard battery (cr2032 or similar) or caps or do they simply take power from the car battery? If there's some internal power supply that may stop a full reset from working unless thats disconnected too? Thinking aloud!

I've read that they can have wildly strict interpretations of the garage clause, and if you park elsewhere overnight (even if in another town) they consider you uninsured. At least FJ specify it has to be parked overnight either in the garage or anywhere more than 5 miles away.

Seconded, if you can take it off the car pop around and they will cut to size the right stuff. Any decent factors will do it.
